Rita Gilligan (1921 – 2014)

LIVINGSTON—Rita Gilligan, 92, of Livingston died May 15, 2014 in Livingston.

Born July 15, 1921 in Pawtucket, RI, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marie (Fontaine) Desaulniers.

She lived in Livingston since 1976 and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Livingston.

Before her retirement, she was employed for many years with the J. and P. Coats Company in Central Falls, RI.

She is survived by her sister, Marie Lapre of Lincoln, RI.

Graveside funeral services were held Monday, May 19 at the Linlithgo Rural Cemetery.

Arrangements were with the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, Germantown.

William John Preusser (1931 – 2014)

HUDSON—William John Preusser, 82, of Craryville was peacefully called home to be with the Lord, Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Community Hospice in Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born in Brooklyn, June 6, 1931, he was the son of the late Gustuv and Freida (Grube) Preusser.

Mr. Preusser served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. He was a self-employed carpenter, mechanic and farmer, and was a man of many talents.

He will be greatly missed by: his beloved wife of 60 years, Joan (VanValkenburg) Preusser; daughters, Malia and (Phil) Mossman, Linda and (Ralph) Bielefeldt, Regina Chambers, Nancy and (Scott) Dewey; son, Christopher and (Carol) Preusser; grandchildren, Beth and (James) DeMatteo, Brad and (Kelly) Bielefeldt, Mark Mossman, Ryan and (Kristen) Bielefeldt, Brittany Bielefeldt, Kayla and Nikki Chambers, Rachel and Kyle Preusser, Bryanna, Kalelin and Kearra Dewey; three great-grandchildren, Evan and Ally DeMatteo and Parker Bielefeldt; one brother, John and (Judy) Preusser; sister-in-law, Francis Preusser; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Theodore Preusser.

Funeral services will be Monday, May 19, noon at the Sacco-McDonald-Valenti Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport with Pastor John Hodges officiating. Burial will follow in Churchtown Cemetery.

Deloris U. LaBella (1931 – 2014)

ALBANY—Deloris U. LaBella 82, of Hudson and recently of Albany, died Wednesday, May 14 at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn.

Born September 16, 1931 in Hudson, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Rose (Farry) Ublacker and was the widow of Joseph LaBella, who died in 1983. Mrs. LaBella was a secretary for many years with the Hudson Correctional Facility. She was a life member of the Columbia Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and a devoted communicant of Holy Trinity/ St. Mary’s Parish in Hudson.

Mrs. LaBella will be greatly missed by her family including: her son, Donald J. LaBella of Ashland, OR; daughters, Joanne L. Serignese and her husband Joseph Serignese, Jr., of Coxsackie, Christine LaBella and her husband Charles Ritch of Catskill; brothers, Alfred Ublacker of Claverack and Robert Ublacker of San Antonio, TX; grandsons, Matthew and Lucas Serignese and Joseph Sloyan.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Monday, May 19 at Holy Trinity/ St. Mary’s Parish, 429 East Allen Street, Hudson with Fr. Winston Bath officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Park Cemetery. Family and friends were welcome at a repast at Kozel’s restaurant following the committal service.

Arlene M. Goldman (1929 – 2014)

GHENT—Arlene M. Goldman, 85, of Ghent, formerly of Greenport, died Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Whittier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center.

Born March 1, 1929 in Mineola, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Florence Redding.

Mrs. Goldman worked as a sales clerk for the W.T. Grant’s Department Store in Greenport. She also worked at Marblestein’s Bakery in Hudson. She was a charter member of the Becraft Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are: two sons, Jeffrey Goldman and Peter Goldman, both of Greenport; four grandchildren, Erin Goldman (Darryn Cooke) of Hudson, Abby Goldman Larsen (Kai) of San Jose, California, Sheldon Goldman (Victoria) of Valatie and Jason Goldman of Greenport; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Sheldon; two brothers, Harry and Robert Redding; and her daughter-in-law, Jeanne Goldman.

Services are private and at the convenience of the family.

Barbara L. Meltz (1937 – 2014)

ALBANY—Barbara L. Meltz, 77, of Greenport, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014 at St. Peter’s Hospital.

Born in Hudson March 17, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Alice Studley.

Ms. Meltz was employed as a sales clerk at Walmart in Greenport. She also worked for the Hudson City School District in food service and for Joslen’s catalog store. She was very close to her siblings and devoted to her family and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by four siblings, Mildred Hermans, Velma Forgham, Evelyn Lyman, and Edna Coon.

Surviving are: her devoted children, Donald Meltz, Jr., (Terry) and Denise Sheedy (Timothy), all of Stockport; her loving grandchildren, Amanda Flanagan (Tyler) of Suffield, CT, Hilary Meltz, Ashley Sheedy, Chloe Meltz and Isaac Meltz, all of Stockport; her beloved siblings, Albert Studley of Wyckoff, NJ, Nancy Berninger of Ghent and Carol Spath of Wallkill; her special great-granddaughter, Norah Joy Flanagan; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Wednesday, May 21, 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, Hudson.

Services will be conducted Thursday, May 22, 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Greenport with Pastor Ken Coddington officiating.

Interment will be in the Reformed Dutch Church Cemetery in Claverack.

John C. Coleman (1945 – 2014)

GHENT—John C. Coleman, 69, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at his home in Ghent.

He was born April 12, 1945 in Mobile, Alabama.

He was a wonderful husband and loving father, grandfather and uncle. He was loved and respected by all who knew him.

Mr. Coleman worked for the Northern Empire Land and Livestock Company in Hudson.

He is survived by: his loving wife, Marilyn Coleman; his daughters, Shanal, Christine and Tessy; his son, Andrew; his brother, William Coleman; several sisters; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A calling hour will begin Thursday, May 22, 7 p.m. at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, Hudson.
