Wendy Bevins (1960 – 2014)
PITTSFIELD, MA—Wendy Bevins, 53, of Ancram passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Berkshire Medical Center.
She was born March 22, 1960 in Sharon, CT, the daughter of Robert Bevins and Diane (Morey) Slater.
Ms. Bevins was employed as a registered nurse the Kindred Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Great Barrington, MA, until her illness.
Survivors include: her mother, Diane Slater of Ancram; her siblings, Glen Bevins, Cindy Stickle, Melanie O’Malley, Nick Slater, Mark Slater, Art Slater, Ernie Slater, Bunny Proudy, Debbie Gregory, John Slater, Gary Slater and Alfred Slater along with several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Punky Austin.
Funeral services will be private.

Leonard J. Mazal (1942 -2014)
CHATHAM—Leonard J. Mazal, 71, of Chatham died Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the home of his loving sister, Lora Kosnick.
Born June 13, 1942 in Valatie, he was the son of the late Arthur Mazal, Jr., and Ruth (Laurange) Mazal. He was a devoted brother to Judith Curvelo (Ron) and Lora Kosnick (Daniel).
Mr. Mazal enlisted in the service under the buddy system with his two good friends, Alan Hills and Jackie Holt. He served in the Marines as an aviation mechanic from 1961 to 1965, stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, NC. He also served for more than a year in Okinawa, Japan. Shortly thereafter, he met Jeanne Rogers and they married in September 1966 and later divorced in 1994.
Mr. Mazal worked as a machinist at Craftech Industries for more than 30 years. Later, he traveled around the country laying fiber optic cable. He could also be seen working at the Chatham bowling alley on occasion.
Mr. Mazal enjoyed riding his Harley and was a member of the East Coast Riders. He has some great times riding with his friends. He was a model railroad enthusiast and former Lionel collector. He enjoyed going to train shows. He was a kind-hearted soul, who made friends everywhere he went. What he enjoyed the most was spending time with his family and friends.
He is greatly missed by: his two daughters, Suzanne Shook (Jim) of Claverack and Erica Teolis of Prescott Valley, AZ; granddaughters, Kelsey Shook and Cassidy Teolis. He was the beloved uncle of several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2014, at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, Hudson. Burial will be in the spring.

Winifred Wynne Veltri
HUDSON—Funeral services for Winifred Wynne Veltri, a former Hudsonian, who died September 17, 2013 in Winter Haven, Florida, will be held Saturday, February 22, 2014.
Friends will be received from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Bates & Anderson Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson. A Divine Liturgy Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 206 Union Street, Hudson, with interment immediately following in Cedar Park Cemetery.
A reception/celebration of her life will be held in the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church Hall immediately following interment.

Diana M. Mottoshiski (1952 – 2014)
HUDSON—Diana M. Mottoshiski, 61, of Greenport passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born December 19, 1952 in Mark, Illinois, she was the daughter of Bruno and Mary (Bima) Biagi.
Mrs. Mottoshiski worked in billing and administration at the Columbia County Mental Health Department in Hudson. She was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren and family. She loved spending time with them. She enjoyed baking, cooking and reading. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Hudson.
Mrs. Mottoshiski is survived by: her husband, Richard Mottoshiski; two daughters, Kristen (Lee) Elcox of Ghent and Jennifer (Kevin) Daly of Claverack; her brother, James (Patricia) Biagi of Goshen; five grandchildren, Cameron, Lauren, Meghan, Ryan and Mary Josephine; her niece, Katie and her nephew, Matthew.
Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, February 19 at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m., Thursday, February 20 at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson. Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.

Carolyn Light (1925 – 2014)
ALBANY—Carolyn Light of East Greenbush passed away peacefully Monday, February 17 at the Hospice Inn, St. Peter’s Hospital.
Born in Hudson, July 19, 1925, she was the daughter of Howard A. Van Alstyne and Dorothy Raup Van Alstyne. After her marriage to her husband Ed, June 28, 1947, she accompanied him to Ithaca, where she found employment at Cornell University while her husband completed studies at the College of Agriculture.
Upon his graduation, she and her husband formed a partnership with her father and operated their family farm in North Chatham for 44 years. Upon retirement, the Lights moved to Ocala, FL, where they lived until returning to Columbia County in 2003. They enjoyed living at Greenbush Terrace in East Greenbush for the past four years.
She is survived by: her loving husband; three children, Thomas E. Light (Deborah) of North Chatham, Howard A. Light (Patricia) of Valatie, Barbara A. Light (Charles Terry) of Rensselaer; grandchildren, Gregory Rothwein, Kati Lynn Rothwein, Stephen Light (Emily Voss), Kerry Ann Light (Marc Williams), Jaclyn Van Hook (David), Sarah Light, Joshua Irish; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Light was predeceased by her parents; daughter, Dr. Deborah E. Light; and her sister, Dorothy and husband Stanley Shufelt.
Calling hours will be Thursday, February 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Route 9, Valatie.
A funeral service to celebrate her life takes place at 11 a.m., Friday, February 21 at the North Chatham United Methodist Church, North Chatham. Interment will be in the North Chatham Rural Cemetery following the service. Josephine Stahowski (1927 – 2014)
PHILMONT—Josephine Stahowski passed away February 16, 2014 at Pine Haven Nursing Home.
She was born August 23, 1927 to the late Thomas and Teresa Alauria in Brooklyn.
Mrs. Stahowski is survived by: her beloved daughters, Joanne Craft (John) of Ghent and Theresa (Joseph) Nostrand of Walden; four grandchildren, Audrey, Laura, Robert and Steven; great-granddaughter, Emily Quell; her sister, Ann Chambers of Philmont; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Walter Stahowski; her dear sister, Tina Dolci and brother, Archie Alauria.
Mrs. Stahowski moved to her stepfather’s family farm in Philmont when she was nine. She enjoyed living and working on the farm. At age 26, she met Walter Stahowski, whom she married in 1954.
Besides working on the farm, Mrs. Stahowski also worked as a seamstress for many years at Miss Bea’s in Philmont and Nancy Ann’s Dress Shop in Hudson. She then moved on to be a cook at the Pine Haven Nursing Home, from where she eventually retired.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 22 at noon. Attendees should gather at 11:30 a.m. at the French Gifford Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham.
Calling hours will be held Friday, February 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Rural Cemetery on Martindale Road.
