Francis “Tony” Weaver, Jr. (1935 – 2014)
VALATIE—Francis Anthony “Tony” Weaver, Jr., passed away February 5, 2014 at Barnwell Nursing Home.
Born May 14, 1935 in Pittsford, VT, he was the son of the late Francis A., Sr., and Mary Louise McCarty Weaver.
Mr. Weaver graduated from Chatham High School in the class of 1953. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Upon returning, he went to work for NYSEG and continued to work there for 34 years until his retirement in 1994.
He was a member of the Ghent Fire Company, the Ghent VFW Post #5933 and the Ghent Rod and Gun Club. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the Ghent Food Pantry and the Ghent VFW Toy Drive repairing toys and getting them delivered.
Mr. Weaver is survived by: his daughters, Debra (Matt) Torrey and Melanie (Skip) Hogan, both of Ghent; his grandchildren, Adam (Carrie) Torrey, Josh (Beth) Hogan, Kristen Hogan and Samantha Torrey; great grandchildren, MaKayla Hogan and Noah Hogan; siblings, Dolores Sherman, Terry Osburn, John R. Weaver, Marcia Parlman and Brian (Carol) Weaver.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 44 years, Janice Piester Weaver; brother, Jerold V. Weaver; sister, Joan Charron and granddaughter, Kaitlin Torrey.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place at St. James Church, Chatham, Saturday, February 8. Interment was in St. James Cemetery, Ghent.
Memorials in Mr. Weaver’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements were with the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham.

Benford W. Sims (1924 – 2014)
COPAKE FALLS—Benford W. Sims, a longtime resident of Copake Falls, passed away February 3, 2014.
He was born March 22, 1924 in London England.
Mr. Sims was a World War II veteran, having served in the Royal Air Force as a navigator on transport planes flying out of Burma. He and his family moved to the U.S. in 1965.
Mr. Sims enjoyed a long retirement after many years of working as a manufacturing engineer in the commercial refrigeration industry.
He enjoyed skiing, fishing, golf and wood-working during his retirement years.
Mr. Sims is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Rita Sims. He was a loving father to daughters, Jennifer and Gillian. He is also survived by grandsons, Evan, Benford and Rusty; and his sister, Andree in England.
Because of his great love of dogs, the family asks that memorials to be made to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society, 125 Humane Society Road, Hudson 12534.
Glendale Brandow (1954 – 2014)
CATSKILL—Glendale Brandow, 59, of Catskill, died Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at home.
Born August 24, 1954 in Hudson, he was the son of Helen (Mosley) Brandow of Hudson and the late Arthur Coleman.
He was a self- employed carpenter.
In addition to his mother, surviving are: his wife, Ernestine Quinn of Catskill; two daughters, Raygan Cuyler and Glendaye (Tor) Quinn–McDowell, both of Albany; five sisters, Cynthia Coleman of Albany, Jordette Brandow of Manhattan, Robin Brandow of Albany, Raythena Brandow of Hudson and Bridgette Brandow of Bowling Green, KY; six brothers, Carlton Coleman of Reynoldsburg, OH, Kevin Coleman of Albany, Barrette Brandow of Newark, NJ, Mitchell Brandow of Hudson, Cedrick Brandow of Hudson and Trenton Brandow of Troy; step-son, Shane Quinn, step-daughter, Marlo Wise-Fordham; his grandchildren, Serena Lawrence of Hudson, Zsa Zsaree Cuyler of Hudson, Zsa Zsarea Cuyler of Hudson, Jayvone Cuyler of Glens Falls, Impress McDowell of Albany and Issa McDowell of Albany; his great-grandchildren, Johnnyra Copeland and Jeremiah Ortiz, both of Hudson; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A calling hour will begin at noon, Thursday, February 13 at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, Hudson, followed by services at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.

Dora S. (Wishengrad) Jackowitz (1912 – 2014)
FALMOUTH, MA—Dora S. (Wishengrad) Jackowitz, 101, passed away at Atria Woodbriar Assisted Living, February 5.
She and her beloved husband of 66 years, Sam, were born six months apart, were raised and lived in Hudson until he died 10 years ago.
Mrs. Jackowitz is survived by: her devoted daughters, Leslie Ramler and her husband, Alvan of Wings Neck, MA, and Summerland Keys, FL, and Ann Jackowitz and her partner, Barbara Taff of New York City and Fleischmanns. She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren, Dari Quirk and her husband, James; great-grandchildren, McKenna and Colton, Allison Miller and her husband, Edward, and great-grandchild Grayson, and Douglas Ramler and his wife, Jennifer and great-grandchildren Duncan, Sam, Owen and Max; as well as, numerous nieces and nephews.
Longtime a pillar of the community and volunteer extraordinaire, Mrs. Jackowitz divided her time between Congregation Anshe Emeth, where, at the time of her death, she was the oldest living member, and Columbia Memorial Hospital.
For decades, she chaired the Sick and Visiting Committee of the synagogue, where she held leadership positions on its Board of Trustees, Sisterhood and Hadassah. For more than 40 years she, along with her husband, volunteered at the hospital’s reception desk and snack bar. In each of these roles, they were named “Outstanding Volunteer Couple.”
She leaves a legacy of a lifelong love of family, learning, giving and sharing with others, which will be passed on for generations.
The funeral was held Friday, February 7 at Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson followed by interment at Cedar Park Cemetery.
