Raymond A. Toelke (1923 – 2013)
CAPE CORAL, FL—Raymond A. Toelke of Malden Bridge and Fort Myers, FL, died at Hope Hospice House, December 30, 2013.
Born February 10, 1923 in Queens, he was the son of William Henry Harrison (Harry) Toelke and Estelle Precht Toelke.
He was married to Evelyn Jane Springer from 1944 until her death in 1982. Mr. Toelke is survived by his second wife of 31 years, Jennetta (Jan) White Stephenson Toelke; his son, Ron Toelke (Barbara); his daughter, Victoria McGraw (John); six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sisters, Harriet McIntyre and Estelle Searby (Arthur), as well as, his brother-in-law, Louis E. Springer, Jr., and his wife’s three children, Elizabeth Moon, Reid Moon and Eric Moon.
During World War II, Mr. Toelke served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945 as an aerial gunnery instructor and later as a pilot cadet. After the war, he worked in the office equipment industry, first in service, then sales, eventually heading the Garden City, New York, branch of Olivetti-Underwood.
Mr. Toelke and his first wife moved to Chatham in 1972, where they were involved in several businesses, including an art gallery and an advertising design studio. He retired from his own successful advertising business, Ray Toelke Associates, in 1987. In 1991, he, his second wife, and his son and his wife founded Chatham Hill Games, which they operated until 2011.
In retirement, Mr. Toelke was an avid clock collector, repairing and maintaining his collection, as well as a collector of ceramic Toby and “character jugs.” Since 1987 Mr. and Mrs. Toelke split their time between homes in Columbia County and Fort Myers, Florida.
A memorial service is planned for May 3, 2014 at the Reformed Dutch Church of Claverack, 88 State Route 9H, Claverack. In lieu of flowers donations in Mr. Toelke’s name may be made to the Reformed Dutch Church of Claverack (www.claverackreformedchurch.org).
Jacqueline Miner (1936 – 2014)
HUDSON—Jacqueline Miner, 77, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2014 at her home after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family and friends.
Mrs. Miner was former vice chairman of the New York Republican State Committee and the widow of Federal Appeals Court Judge Roger J. Miner of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
Jacqueline (Mariani) Miner was born December 10, 1936 in Mount Vernon. She was awarded an AAS degree in chemistry from Westchester Community College. She worked as an analytical chemist at the Stauffer Chemical Company.
She later earned her bachelor’s (BS) and master’s (MA) (cum laude) in history from the College of Saint Rose in Albany. She also earned 14 hours of post graduate work at SUNY Albany towards a doctorate in political science.
In 1980, Mrs. Miner served as vice chairman of the New York State Reagan for President Campaign. In 1982, she was a candidate for the Republican nomination for the United States Senate. She was appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1983 to the White House Outreach Group of Latin America. She taught the history of the Middle East and the history of Latin America at Columbia-Greene Community College from 1973 to 1979. She was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1992.
Mrs. Miner is listed in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Women, and Who’s Who in the East.
She is survived by: four sons, Ronald B. Carmichael and fiancée, Fani, of Alexandria Virginia, Ralph W. Carmichael of Michigan, Mark A. Miner and wife, Robin, of Austin, Texas, and Laurence E. Miner and wife, Lisa, of Santa Monica, California; six grandchildren, Sydney and Zachary Miner, Clayton and Ciena Carmichael, and Josh and Evan Miner.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Ronald B. Carmichael, Sr.
The funeral will take place at 1 p.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the Congregation Anshe Emeth, 240 Joslen Boulevard, Hudson.
Funeral arrangements are with the Bates & Anderson Funeral Home, Hudson.

Israel L. Bower (1974 – 2014)
HUDSON—Israel L. Bower, 39, of Stottville passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 17, 2014 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
He was born February 27, 1974.
He was the husband of Lucy H. Bower, and the son of Leo and Michele Bower.
Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the Bates and Anderson Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the Calvary Assembly of God Church, 2813 Atlantic Avenue, Stottville, with Pastor Art Henderson officiating.
Interment will follow in the Stuyvesant Falls Cemetery, Route 9, Stuyvesant Falls.
Mr. Bower is survived by his loving wife, Lucy Bower; his parents, Leo and Michele Bower; his half-brother, Christopher; many aunts, uncles, cousins and the furry gang.
Mr. Bower loved going on long rides with his dog, Applesauce and loved to tell jokes. He put others first, he was thoughtful and kind.
In lieu of flowers, his wife requests memorial donations be made to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society.

Ruth C. Hodowansky (1922 – 2014)
GHENT—Ruth C. Hodowansky, 92, passed away peacefully, Sunday, January 19, 2014, at Whittier Nursing Center.
She was born January 8, 1922, in Bedford, Indiana to the late William and Mabel Leahy.
Mrs. Hodowansky was predeceased by her husband, Michael Hodowansky; four brothers, Hershel, John, George and Bob Leahy all of Bedford, Indiana; and two sisters, Audrey Dillon of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Mary Ellen Southern of Bedford, Indiana.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Carol Hodowansky of Clemmons, North Carolina; daughter and son-in-law, MaryJane and Lesley Haywood of Stuyvesant; four grandchildren, Kim (Scott) Boyles and Amy (Jeff) Sessoms all of North Carolina, Michael (Janet) Haywood of Stuyvesant and Mark (Susan) Haywood of Ghent and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family thanks the staff at Whittier Nursing Center and Community Hospice of Columbia/Greene for all the care and support shown to Mrs. Hodowansky.
