John J. Turbet (1924 – 2013)
SALISBURY, CT—John J. Turbet, 89, a resident of Noble Horizons Nursing Home in Salisbury, CT, and formerly of Ancramdale and West Palm Beach, FL, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Saturday, November 9, 2013.
He was born March 3, 1924 in Queens Village, the son of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Verry) Turbet.
Mr. Turbet was a World War II veteran, who served during the campaigns in Ardennes, Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland from February 25, 1943 until December 22, 1945. He served as a grade 4 surgical technician at the 168th General Hospital in France, and the 56th General Hospital in Liege, Belgium.
Mr. Turbet met his wife of 62 years, Anne (Crowley) Turbet, while working at Morgan Guaranty Trust Company in New York. She predeceased him April 3, 2012. He worked there for more than 40 years. After raising his children in Seaford, Mr. Turbet and his family lived for a number of years on Fire Island and Oak Beach. He and his wife retired to Ancramdale in 1992, sharing their time between Ancramdale and West Palm Beach, FL.
Past activities included serving as a Meals on Wheels volunteer, being a Knights of Columbus member, as well as a member of the Young at Hearters and participating in many activities and shows in Ashley/Cresthaven in FL. Mr. Turbet enjoyed their many and varied travels, especially their trip to Ireland with the Young at Hearters. He was also an avid reader.
Mr. Turbet was a quiet man with an easy personality and a wonderful sense of humor. He had a funny comment or wisecrack for everything. He was a family man and was very proud of all of his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by: a son, Gerald Turbet and his wife Wendie of Enfield, CT; a daughter, Christine DePutron and her husband David of Ancramdale; a son, Brian Turbet and his wife Sheila of Brooksville, FL; a daughter, Maureen McMullan and her husband James of Red Bank, NJ; grandchildren Ryan Turbet, Jenna (DePutron) Tramontana and her husband John, Shane DePutron and his wife Allison, Scott DePutron, Daniel Turbet and his wife Rachel, Kerry Turbet, James, Bridget, Katie, and Mary McMullan; and several nieces.
He was also predeceased by his brother, Frank Turbet, his sister Grace (Turbet) Abbate, and his grandson, Brandon Turbet.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, November 15, 2013 at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 8063 State Route 22, Copake.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, 8074 State Route 22, Copake Falls, with the Reverend George Brennan officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Bridget’s Cemetery in Copake Falls, next to the church.

John R. Van Buren
HUDSON—John R. Van Buren, 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 7, 2013.
He was the son of the late John Russell Van Buren and Frances (Warner) Van Buren.
Mr. Van Buren was predeceased by his loving wife, Nancy (Burgess) Van Buren and his sisters, Frances Ruth Lumm and Mary Alice Hooker.
Until retirement, Mr. Van Buren owned Orchard Hill Farm in Stockport. He was a retired board member of the Capital District Farmers Market in Menands, a member of the Elks, and a retired member of the Stockport Fire Company.
Mr. Van Buren is survived by: his caregiver step-daughter, Melanie Ryan; his caregiver step-son, Jack Ham; his wife, Joan; his grandson, Matthew Ryan; his daughter, Dawn Van Buren and her husband, Leo Dolan.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who touched Mr. Van Buren’s life.
Services were private from the Bates & Anderson Funeral Home, Hudson.
Interment was in Village Cemetery in West Stockbridge, MA.
E. Patrick Sullivan (1952 – 2013)
CLAVERACK—E. Patrick Sullivan of Claverack passed away November 11, 2013.
He was the son of Mary McKenna Sullivan and William V. Sullivan and was born in Hudson, July 22, 1952.
He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy, Siena College and received two master degrees from the University of Connecticut in special education and counseling.
After teaching history in Connecticut and working for a few years at Berkshire Farm as a social worker/counselor, he was employed for 30 years by the NYS Office of Family and Children’s Services (formerly known as the Division of Youth). For the last 16 years, Mr. Sullivan was the director at the Brookwood Secure Center. He worked hard to be a positive force in the community. He was a member of the Hudson City School District Board of Education from 1989 to 1999 and president of the Board from 1994 to 1997.
Mr. Sullivan was fiercely loyal and dedicated to taking care of his family. He was the loving husband of Arlene Levinson for 33 years and the proud and loving father of Rachel Sullivan of Sunnyside. He was forever grateful to his brother, William V. Sullivan of Yorktown Heights for donating a kidney and his sister-in-law, Claudia Sullivan for her support. Additionally, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Roberta Levinson of Twin Lakes, WI, and her husband, Kim Lewis; his in-laws, Sheila and Sidney Levinson of Boynton Beach, FL, and his nieces and nephews, Alison Sullivan, Amanda Lewis, Andrew Lewis, and Alexa Lewis.
His sense of humor, sharp wit and ability to tell stories and bring laughter and a smile to everyone will be greatly missed by those who knew him. He courageously faced and overcame many medical obstacles.
Visiting hours will be 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, November 14 at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home. Services will be announced.

William J. Dodds (1928 – 2013)
RED HOOK—William J. Dodds, 85, of Red Hook passed away suddenly, Saturday November 9, 2013.
He had been a resident of Red Hook since 1964 and previously lived in Hillsdale, Columbia County.
He was born June 23, 1928 in North Hillsdale, a son of Robert and Mary (Brown) Dodds.
Mr. Dodds was a graduate of Roeliff Jansen High School in Hillsdale, class of 1946, where he played saxophone in the dance band. He proudly served his country with the United States Navy at the end of World War II.
He worked in the family business, Dodds General Store, as well as on the Dodds family farm from a very early age, and returned to the store from 1951 to 1959 and added major appliance installation and repair to the business. He later was employed by IBM in 1960 until his retirement in 1989. During retirement, he started Mid Hudson Golf Works, a custom golf club building business.
Mr. Dodds was very active in his communities as a member of the former Roeliff Jansen Lions Club and as an active member of the Red Hook United Methodist Church serving in the choir and many positions. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Red Hook Golf Club.
He was predeceased by his wife Helen (Thomas) Dodds in 1992 and siblings Robert, Matt, Mary and Betty.
Survivors include: his daughters, Kathleen Dodds of New Jersey and Carol Ames of Raleigh, NC, and his companion, Shirley Fingar of Craryville, along with many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at North Hillsdale United Methodist Church, Friday, November 15, 2013, 2 to 4 p.m. Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 10 a.m. from the Red Hook United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jennifer Tiernan-Bindler officiating.
Interment will be in the North Hillsdale Cemetery also on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
