Robert H. Sharpe
FORKED RIVER, NJ—Robert H. Sharpe, 81, of Forked River passed away Friday, October 11, 2013.
He was born in New York City, raised in Germantown and previously lived in Poughkeepsie.
He and his wife moved to Randolph, where they raised their family, before moving to Forked River.
Mr. Sharpe was stationed in Korea and Japan when he served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for County College of Morris as a professor, retiring as vice president of County College and Business Administration. His passion for teaching continued when he founded the tutoring program for juveniles at the Forked River Game Farm.
Mr. Sharpe was an active member of the Forked River Presbyterian Church, where he participated in the choir and held positions on their boards and committees. He was a member of the Lacey Elks Lodge 2518 and Forked River Old Guard, Chapter #19. He founded the Forked River Ken Dunster Memorial Gold League and enjoyed boating, fishing, skiing and camping with his family throughout the United States.
Mr. Sharpe is predeceased by his brother, Frank.
Survivors include: his wife of 53 years, Mary Sharpe (nee Curtin); sons, Michael, John and Christopher; daughter, Debra Collins and his grandchildren, Taylor and Riley Collins and Shane, Trent, and Carly Sharpe.
He will be missed by his brothers, John and his wife Joan and George and his wife Linda and his sister-in law, Delores.
A viewing was held Sunday, October 13 at the Riggs Funeral Home, 130 North Route 9, Forked River, NJ 08731. Funeral services will be offered Monday, October 14 at 11 a.m. at the Forked River Presbyterian Church, 131 North Route 9, Forked River. Burial will be Tuesday, October 15 at 1 p.m. at Germantown Reformed Cemetery, Main Street, Germantown. Contributions in Mr. Sharpe’s memory may be made to the Forked River Presbyterian Church at the above address. Local arrangements are with the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, Germantown.
Stanley Kotowicz (1919 – 2013)
POUGHKEEPSIE—Stanley Kotowicz, 93, of Germantown died Tuesday, October 8 at St. Francis Hospital.
Born October 18, 1919 in Poland, he was the son of the late Walter and Anna (Morek) Kotowicz.
He had worked for many years as a machinist with G & G Procession in Ardsley.
Survivors include: his wife, Koletta Kotowicz; son, Norbert Kotowicz of Hicksville and two granddaughters.
There are no calling hours.
Funeral services were Friday, October 11 from the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home in Germantown and at the Church of the Resurrection of Germantown, where Father Winston Bath celebrated a Mass of the Christian Burial.
Interment followed in Mount Hope Cemetery in Hastings-on-Hudson.
Frank J. Martino (1931 – 2013)
HUDSON—Francisco (Frank) Martino, 82 years young, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born September 16, 1931 in Stockport, he was the son of the late Peter and Roxie Martino.
He was also predeceased by two sons, Frank Peter Martino and Bradly Martino.
Mr. Martino leaves behind: his son, Gerald Martino (Susan); his daughter, Joyce Davis (Frederick); his son, Glenn Martino (Mary); his son, Peter Martino (Abby); the love of his life, Susan Harmon; his brother, Lawrence Martino (Judy); 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He enjoyed his weekly golfing, his motorcycle, and his summers camping with friends at Woodland Hills. He was the owner of The Iron Horse Bar on Seventh Street, Hudson, where scenes from several movies were filmed, including “Nobody’s Fool” and “Ironweed.”
Mr. Martino was a member of the Stuyvesant Falls VFW, the Sons of Italy, the Elks, the American Legion, the Polish Sportsmen’s Club, the Stuyvesant Falls Fire Company, Glencadia Rod and Gun, and the Hudson Fire Department.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, October 14 at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 15 at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Stuyvesant Falls.

Helen “Lovey” O’Brien (1927 – 2013)
GHENT—Helen “Lovey” O’Brien, 86, of Hudson, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Whittier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center.
Born August 1, 1927 in Hudson, she was the daughter of the late Waclaw and Kamelia (Sokol) Nartowicz.
Mrs. O’Brien was a homemaker. She was employed at Marsh’s Department Store, Krug’s Jewelry and the Claverack Country Store. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church and the Catholic Daughters of America.
Mrs. O’Brien is survived by: three daughters, Susan (Thomas) Nicholson of Kinderhook, Helen (Gus) Kozel of Ghent and Patrice (Robert) Perry of Hudson; her son, Peter O’Brien of Palm Beach, Florida; her brother, Joseph Nartowicz of Stony Point and five grandchildren, Nikolas “Spike” Kozel of Philadelphia, Kathleen O’Brien of Florida, Michael and Natalie Nicholson of Kinderhook, and Gillian Perry of Hudson.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, George B. “Sonny” O’Brien, Jr.; her brother, Adam Nartowicz and four sisters, Jane Balcerzewski, Honora “Honey” Flanagan, Anja Pryschlak and Dorothy Hester.
Visiting hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 17 at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, Hudson.
Prayers will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, October 18 at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, 429 East Allen Street, Hudson.
Interment will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.
