John D. Waldo (1920 – 2013)
HILLSDALE—John D. Waldo, 92, devoted husband of Dr. Irma Waldo for 65 years, died peacefully at home Tuesday, October 8, 2013.
He was born in Albion, October 30, 1920, son of Harry D. and Elsie (Roach) Waldo.
Dr. Waldo was a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Army.
He graduated from the University of Buffalo Dental School where he was a member of XI PSI PHI Dental Fraternity. In 1950, he moved to Columbia County to practice dentistry in Philmont and Hudson for the next 40 years
Dr. Waldo served as assistant patrol director of the Catamount Ski Patrol for 18 years and during his 22 years on the patrol he was an OEC instructor, a ski and toboggan examiner, EMT and CPR instructor.
He was a member and served as deacon of the West Copake Reformed Church. He was a den master for Roe Jan Area Cub Scouts and assistant scout master for Hillsdale Boy Scout Troop #126.
Surviving is his wife, Irma (Mazzarella) Waldo; four children, Dr. Douglas (Patricia) Waldo, John T. (Mary) Waldo, Wendy (Alan) Garfield and Amy (Frank) Allen.
A memorial service to be held at the West Copake Reformed Church will take place in November at a time to be announced.
