Charles E. Hoffman (1927 – 2013)
PHILMONT—Charles E. Hoffman, 85, of Hudson, passed away at Pine Haven Nursing Home, Sunday, October 6.
He was born November 4, 1927 in Livingston, the son of Beatrice Jeffrie.
He was predeceased by his mother and brother, John (Jack) Hoffman; his son, James in 2001, and his wife, Helen in 2011.
He is survived by: his brother, James (Donna) Jeffries of California; sons, Chuck (Alice) Hoffman and John, both of Greenport; his grandchildren, Shannon Hoffman of Wilmington, NC, Shawn Hoffman of Hudson, Patrick Hoffman of Troy and James Hoffman, who currently resides in Singapore; several nieces and nephews.
He was employed by the New York State Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1990. He also drove bus for Columbia County Veterans for a number of years.
Mr. Hoffman was a U.S. Navy veteran, who served for four years during World War II and was honorably discharged. He was a life-member of H.W. Rogers Hose Company #2 for 46 years and held the positions of lieutenant and captain. He was also a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Hudson.

Florence Burch (1954 – 2013)
PHILMONT—Florence Dolores Burch, a devoted wife and homemaker, went to be with the Lord, September 30, 2013 at her Philmont home.
She was born in Catskill, January 25, 1954 and lived part of her childhood there until her mother, Theresa Deamer moved her family to Hudson.
Mrs. Burch lived in Hudson until she was married to Ronald J. Burch, who is at Livingston Hills Nursing Home now, and they lived in Stockport until about five years ago, when they moved to Philmont.
She spent her whole life loving animals. Her cats and dogs were her babies. She was predeceased by her mother, Theresa Deamer and her brother, Daley “Butch” Deamer. She is survived by her sister, Roseanne Viktora if Florida.
Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with the Bates and Anderson – Redmond and Keeler Funeral Home.
Stewart “Butch” Almstead (1947 – 2013)
HUDSON—Stewart C. Almstead, 65, a longtime resident of Philmont, passed away peacefully October 2, 2013 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.
He was born October 17, 1947 in Hudson, the son of Delores Almstead and the late Stewart C. Almstead of Philmont.
He graduated Ockawamick High School and then enlisted in the Navy in 1965. He served for two years.
Mr. Almstead was a longtime employee of the Firemen’s Home in Hudson, working security, beloved by both the staff and the residents. He retired last year.
He was an active member of the community he lived in, always willing to lend a helping hand to his neighbors. He was an active member of the Chatham Fire Department and Rescue Squad, and later the Philmont Rescue Squad. He was also a member of the Chatham Methodist Church.
Survivors include: his mother, Delores Almstead of Philmont; several loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at the Firemen’s Home, Friday October 11 at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Almstead’s name may be made to the Firemen’s Home, 125 Harry Howard Avenue, Hudson 12534. Online condolences may be conveyed at www.frenchblasl.com.
Eva L. Briggs (1928 – 2013)
HUDSON—Eva L. Briggs, 84, of Greenport, died Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Christ Church Episcopal, Hudson.
Carol Ann Dinsmore (1936 – 2013)
POUGHKEEPSIE—Carol Ann Dinsmore, 77, of Canaan, CT, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Vassar Brother’s Hospital.
She was born in Danbury, CT, February 1, 1936, the daughter of William and Edith (Renner) Benson.
Ms. Dinsmore was an office manager for Trotta’s Supermarket in Sharon, CT, and also Millerton.
Survivors include: a daughter, Bonnie and her husband, James Silvernail of Copake Falls; a son, George and his wife, Natalie Sandone of Pine Plains; four grandchildren, Jamie, Kevin, Brittany and Mikayla; a brother, Ralph and his wife, Linda Benson of Canaan, CT; also a niece and four nephews.
She was predeceased by a grandson, William Silvernail.
Funeral service and interment will be private and at the convenience of family.
