John J. Duignan (1935 – 2013)

RHINEBECK—John J. Duignan, 77, of Wawarsing died Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at the Ferncliff Nursing Home.

Born September 18, 1935 in New York City, he was the son of the late Joseph and Kathleen (Mann) Duignan. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959.

His wife, Carolyn Farley Duignan, predeceased him December 17, 1991.

He held a master’s degree in social work from Columbia University, and also did graduate studies in English. For many years he worked as a social worker in New York City. After his retirement, he worked for, and then volunteered for, Family of Woodstock in the Ellenville office.

Mr. Duignan is survived by: his three children, Kathleen P. Duignan and her partner Jim O’Neil of Elizaville, Margaret V. Duignan and her partner Lisa Devine of Huntington and Daniel P. Duignan and his wife Marie of Rosedale; and his grandson, Ryan O’Neil of Elizaville.

Funeral services and interment in Calvary Cemetery in Queens will be private.

Georgette M. Leslie (1910 – 2013)

LARGO, FL—Georgette Leslie 103 of Largo, Florida formerly of Chatham passed away Sunday, September 1 peacefully at her residence with family and friends.

She was born March 1, 1910 in New York City, the daughter of the late George and Maybelle (Atkinson) Marshall.

She graduated from New York City Teachers’ College and was a beloved second grade teacher for 35 years in the Chatham Central School.

In 1936 she married the late Robert A. Leslie (1986) and lived in Chatham until 1980, when they moved to Largo, Florida for Mr. Leslie’s health.

Mrs. Leslie was past matron the O.E.S. Chapter #4, was a member of the Columbia Memorial Hospital Chatham Auxiliary and served on the Board of Directors of the Columbia-Greene Humane Society.

Mrs. Leslie continued her active social life in Florida as an avid golfer and card player. She maintained her many relationships with friends from Chatham and the surrounding area throughout the years.

She is survived by: her niece, Jan Allard of Beacon Falls, CT; seven great nieces and nephews; nine great-great nieces and nephews and her longtime friend and caregiver, Pat Avegeanos of Largo, FL.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her sisters Ellen, Irene and Mae and her beloved niece, Joan Clancy of Stony Brook.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 22, 2013, visitation at 1 p.m. with a service at 2 p.m. at the Wenk Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery. Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Lorenz (1927 – 2013)

HUDSON—Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Lorenz of Greenport passed away September 5, 2013 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born in Germantown March 26, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Mary (Saulpaugh) and Ruluf Potts.

Mrs. Lorenz worked for many years as office manager for Herman and Martin Michaelson at United Apple Sales in Hudson. She was a member of the Germantown Reformed Church and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Treble Choraliers.

Mrs. Lorenz is survived by: her loving sister, Dolores DuMond with whom she resided; her step-son, Wesley (Carol) Lorenz of Germantown; her cousin, Gordon (Edna) Saulapugh of East Greenbush; a nephew, DeWitt (Joan) Potts of Colonie; a niece, Sarah (Randy) Cooke and sister-in-law, Ida Potts of Syracuse.

She was predeceased by her husband, Wesley F. Lorenz, who passed away June 7, 2013, and her three brothers, William, Woodrow and Clayton Potts.

Services were Monday, September 9 at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, Germantown, with the Reverend David Tipple officiating.

Interment followed in the Reformed Church Cemetery, Germantown.

Daniel G. Ryan (1949 – 2013)

CRARYVILLE—Daniel G. Ryan, 64, of Craryville passed away September 7, 2013, surrounded by his family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Ellen May; his son, Peter; and brothers, Thomas, John and Kevin.

Mr. Ryan was a loving father survived by: his 6 children and 12 grandchildren, daughter, Debbie Simpson, mother of Jackie and John; son, Patrick, father of Peter and Lily; son, Michael, father of Zoey, Jacob, Casmir and Ryelee; daughter, Michelle, mother of Kalista, Valerie and Allyssa; daughter, Danielle; and daughter, Christine, mother of Unari.

He is also survived by his siblings, Desi, May and Patricia; nieces; nephews; daughters-in-law and sons-in-law.

He was born in Bayside, August 15, 1949. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Mr. Ryan was a hard-working family man, loved by all. He spent the past 25 years tinkering on his farm and caring for his family. He was a general contractor, postman and truck driver. He enjoyed reading, raising ducks and chickens, and quality time with his grandkids and family.

The family invites all to a celebration of life to be held Monday, September 9, 2013 from 3 to 7 p.m. at 915 Palmer Road Extension, Craryville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Wendy L. Ordway (1959 – 2013)

HUDSON—Wendy L. Ordway, 53, of Valatie died Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born September 29, 1959 in Barre, VT, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Rebecca (Emerson) Eaton.

Mrs. Ordway was the owner of Ordway’s Lawn Care in Valatie. She was a member of the Chatham Historical Society and Cornell Cooperative Extension.

She is survived by: her husband, Arthur F. Ordway; a daughter, Sara Clough (Cameron) of Valatie; two sons, Jason Ordway and Joshua Ordway both of Valatie; three sisters, Geraldine Gregg of East Chatham, Jacqueline Robinson of Valatie and Patti-Jo Wright of South Ryegate, VT; two brothers, Timothy Eaton of Falmouth, MA, and Wesley Eaton of Woodsville, NH; two grandchildren, Kyle Francis and Emma Rae Clough; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Wayne Eaton and a nephew, Wade Eaton

Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
