Paul E. Johnson (1921 – 2013)
HUDSON—Paul E. Johnson, 91 of Copake passed away Wednesday July 3, 2013 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 30, 1921 in Northfield, CT, the son of Phillip and Dorothy (Swanson) Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a local resident for the past 25 years, previously residing in Torrington, CT.
He was employed as a salesman with Bankers Life and Casualty in Waterbury, CT, and later as a machine operator in Torrington before his retirement in 1986.

He served his country from 1944 to 1948 with the United States Army. He was a member of the Closson – Raught American Legion Post #1160 and the Cadby – Shutts VFW Post # 7552.

An accomplished writer, Mr. Johnson was a member of the National Society of Poets and had received numerous awards. He also enjoyed stamp collecting, antiques, art and music. Mr. Johnson was the inventor of the intellect game, “Scribendi.”

He was pre-deceased by his wife, Nina Anikienko Johnson in 2000; a step-son, Alexander Anikienko; two brothers, John Robert and Armand and two sisters, Doris and Alice.

Survivors include: his step-children, Eugene Anikienko of Moodus, CT, and Ludmilla Krausse of Florida, along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves a sister, Betty Matthys of Huntsville, TX, with several nieces and nephews and his caregiver, Beth Sporin.

Graveside services were held Monday, July 8, 2013 at the Craryville Cemetery with the Reverend John Thompson of the Church of St. John in the Wilderness officiating.
Arrangements are with the Peck and Peck Funeral Home of Copake.

William J. Kiernan (1968 – 2013)
LYNN, MA—William J. Kiernan, 45, of Lynn, MA, passed away suddenly at his residence, Sunday, July 7, 2013.

He was born June 16, 1968 in New Haven, CT, a son of William F. and Rosalie J. (Rzasa) Kiernan of Copake.

Mr. Kiernan was a graduate of Cornell University and had been employed as an agricultural analyst with the High Quest Partners Investment Firm.

Survivors include: his three children, Maegan, Mallory and Beckett Kiernan, all of Rochester, MA; his parents, William and Rosalie Kiernan of Copake; his siblings, Walter Kiernan of Copake, Amy Raymond of Copake Falls and David Kiernan of Copake. He is also survived by his former wife, Lynda (Drennan) Kiernan, along with several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited and may call Friday, July 12, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, Route 22 in Copake.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. from the Parish of Our Lady of Hope, 8074 State Route 22, Copake Falls. The Reverend George Brennan will officiate.
Private interment will be at the convenience of the family.
