Joseph Anthony Lis (1930 – 2013)
WORCESTER, MA—Joseph Anthony Lis, 82, formerly of Greenport, passed away peacefully at the Ichabod Washburn Hospice Residence, Monday, July 8, 2013.
Born October 20, 1930 in Chicago, he was the son of the late Stanley and Katherine Lis. He was raised on the South Side of Chicago.
Mr. Lis was a pioneer in the printing industry. Hired as an engineer by the Goss Printing Company of Chicago, he spent several years installing color newspaper printing presses all over the world. Several of his installations still stand today in Africa, New Zealand, Europe and throughout the United States. In 1964 he was recognized by United Airlines for becoming a founding member of the 100,000 mile club.
His travels would take him to Hudson. While working onsite for the Register-Star he met his future wife, Grace V. Lis, who was employed by the newspaper as an executive assistant. Mr. Lis would then settle down later in Greenport for the next 37 years and work locally for KTB Associates of Saugerties.
Mr. Lis was a Korean War veteran. In the war he utilized his engineering skills for the U.S. Army and oversaw the assembly of ammunition and weapons while stationed in France and Germany.
He was an active member of the community serving as a member of Mount Pleasant Reformed Church, where he became a deacon, elder and served on the Cemetery Committee. He was a life member of the VFW and proud member of the Polish Federation Sportsman Club in Hudson. Mr. Lis was also a member of the Charlton American Legion and an active member of the Charlton Senior Center.
An avid fisherman, Mr. Lis could be seen fishing the waters throughout Upstate New York and offshore deep-sea expeditions. When not fishing, Mr. Lis followed his children around to sporting events all over the northeast.
Mr. Lis is survived by: his daughter and son-in-law Cathy and Tony Wong-Li of Charlton and their two children Ryan and Kiley, his son and daughter-in-law Michael and Dina Lis and their children Ava, Zachary and Hudson of Simsbury, CT, and his daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Donald Kufner of Bourbonnais, IL along with their children Jessica and Matthew and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Ruzicka and his brother and sister in law, Chester and Nini Lis along with several nieces, nephews and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Grace V. Lis.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Bates and Anderson Funeral Home in Hudson from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held Friday, July 12, 2013 at Mt. Victor Raabe
HUDSON—Victor A. Raabe, 76, a long-time resident of Hillsdale died June 10, 2013 at Columbia Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Lisa Jones of Deep River, CT; step-daughters, Colleen Krivacek of San Diego, CA, and Jennifer Hagar of Port Deposit, MD; six grandchildren, Owen and Olivia Krivacek, Jackson and Maxwell Hagar, Molly and Henry Jones, who was born June 12, 2013.

Constance Knebel (1934 – 2013)
CANAAN—Constance (Connie) Wood Knebel passed away at her home in Canaan, June 30, 2013.
She was the fourth of nine children born to Agnes Troy Wood and Charles B. Wood, November 2, 1934 in Boston, MA.
She is survived by four brothers, George, Matthew, Joseph and James, as well as, many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Regina and Helena and brothers, Charles and Phil.
She attended St. Mark’s Elementary School in Dorchester, MA, the St. Joseph Academy in Brighton and the Vesper George School of Art in Boston. After completing her education, she became a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines. She then moved to New York, where she was the secretary to the editor of Esquire magazine. She was an accomplished potter, painter and photographer. Later, she moved to Honolulu, Hawaii where she met and married author Fletcher Knebel. The Knebels stayed in Hawaii, until Mr. Knebel’s death in 1993.
Mrs. Knebel then bought a home in Canaan and moved there. She continued creating her pottery and painting in a studio on the property. There will be a memorial Mass for Mrs. Knebel, August 11, 2013 at 9 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in, Braintree, MA. Condolences may be conveyed at www.frenchblasl.com.
Angelo Santoro (1925 – 2013)
NEW YORK CITY—Angelo Santoro, 88, of Elizaville died Thursday, July 4, 2013 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.
Mr. Santoro was the owner and operator of a metal fabrication shop in College Point.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Born March 23, 1925 in New York City, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary (DeVito) Santoro.
He married Claire Campbell, August 9, 1947 in Flushing, and she predeceased him June 8, 1992.
He is survived by: his daughter, Danielle Santoro of Elizaville; his son, Michael Santoro of Elizaville; his sisters, Martha Giacoia of Long Island and Frances Conte of Queens; his grandchildren, Miranda (Travis) Proper of Elizaville, Michael Senerchia of Elizaville, Kendra Katay of Elizaville, Justin (Alysa) Hines of Nebraska, and Houston Hines of Colorado; his great granddaughter, Ashlynn Proper, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.
In addition to several brothers and sisters, he was predeceased be his daughter, Manon Santoro and his granddaughter, Angela Bradley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 13, 2013 at St. Christopher’s Church, Red Hook. The Reverend Xavier Santiago will officiate. Burial will be at St. Sylvia’s Cemetery, Tivoli.
