Doris Warner Burlarley (1923 – 2013)

GT. BARRINGTON, MA—Doris Warner Burlarley, 89, of Hillsdale died peacefully Friday, January 11, 2013 in Great Barrington, MA.

She was born January 21, 1923 in Hartford Mills, the daughter of John R. and Hazel M. (Rogers) Warner.

She was a chef at the Mt. Washington House and Morandi’s, both in Hillsdale.

Mrs. Burlarley was a warm loving woman who enriched the lives of all she touched and will be deeply missed.

She was the loving wife of Ralph W. Burlarley; devoted grandmother to J.R. Burlarley of Hillsdale, Kim Carr of Bethesda, MD, Gina Gorrow of Beverly Hills, FL, Angie Loveland of Tennessee and Tony Burlarley of Craryville. She also leaves 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services to which family and friends are invited will be held Saturday January 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. from the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 8063 State Route 22, Copake.

There are no calling hours.

Spring interment will be in the North Hillsdale Cemetery.

Georgina Dunaj (1930 – 2013)

HILLSDALE—Georgina “Georgia” (Manuli) Dunaj of Hillsdale, formerly of Hicksville and Manhattan, passed away, January 12, 2013.

Born in 1930 in Manhattan to Thomas and Mary (Olivo) Manuli, she was the eldest of four sisters. In 1948, while employed by Travelers Insurance Company in Manhattan, she met and married the love of her life, John Dunaj.

In 1969, they moved their family from their Long Island home to Hillsdale, where they owned and operated several successful business ventures, including Taconic North Superette and the Taconic North Liquor Store in East Hillsdale, the Pinebrook Motel and the Green Thumb Nursery, also in Hillsdale, as well as briefly operating the Olde Egremont Club in South Egremont, MA, where she was also the chef. She was later employed as a ticket agent at Catamount Ski Area, where she subsequently assumed her husband’s position as comptroller upon his death in 1979 and where she worked until her retirement.

Mrs. Dunaj also served several terms on the Hillsdale Board of Appeals in the 1970s.

Mrs. Dunaj was especially recognized for her culinary expertise and also for her lifelong talent and expertise in gardening, cultivating and nurturing everything around her.

Her proudest accomplishments and sources of happiness were her marriage, her children and grandchildren, and also her extended family, for who her home was always open. She was the family matriarch, the family confidante and advisor, the keeper and teller of family stories, the creator of wonderful meals and memories.

Mrs. Dunaj left an indelible impression upon many lives and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by: a son, Jon Dunaj of Florida: a daughter, Valerie Knox and son-in-law Glennford Knox; grandchildren, Maria and Christopher Knox of Hillsdale; a brother-in-law, Frank Dunaj; nine nephews; seven nieces; 25 grand-nieces and grand-nephews; seven great-grand-nieces and great-grand-nephews.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Dunaj. She was also predeceased by her sister, Nancy Veselovsky; brother-in-law, Joseph Veselovsky, Sr.; nephew, Joseph Veselovsky, Jr.; by her sister, Gloria Dalton and brother-in-law Gerard Dalton; and by her sister, Barbara Giacinto DeVito.

In keeping with Mrs. Dunaj’s wishes, there are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, January 18, 2013 at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, 8074 Route 22, Copake Falls, with the Reverend George Brennan officiating.

Interment will be next to her beloved husband, John in the Hillsdale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Mrs. Dunaj’s name to Community Hospice of Columbia Greene, 47 Liberty Street, Catskill 12414.

Robert W. Clark (1923 – 2013)

GREENPORT—Robert W. Clark, 89, of Greenport, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013 at his residence.

Born December 18, 1923 in Des Moines, Iowa, he was the son of the late Leslie and Lula May Clark.

Mr. Clark served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a bus driver for more than 20 years with Donald Kline, Pat Zanchelli, the City of Hudson, the Hudson City School District, the Hendrick Hudson Bus Lines and Leprechan Lines. He was also a truck driver for several companies including Canada Dry and Independent Cement.

Surviving are: his wife, Betty J. (Oliver) Clark of Hudson; three sons, Michael Clark of South Carolina and Larry and Wayne “Scottie” Clark, both of Florida; a granddaughter, Donna Marie Arnold of Florida; his grandson, Jayson Clark of South Carolina; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one brother and seven sisters.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, January 18 at the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, Hudson.

Brother Joseph Edward Umile, CSC (1948 – 2013)

SOUTH BEND, IN—Brother Joseph Umile, a Brother of Holy Cross, died Sunday, January 13, 2013 at St. Joseph Medical Center.

Born July 16, 1948 in New Haven, CT, he was the son of Joseph William Umile and Rita Kawders Umile. He had no siblings.

He worked at Holy Cross Brothers’ schools in West Haven, CT from 1970 to 74, Waterbury, CT from 1974 to 75 and 1980 to 84, Flushing, Rome Italy, Indianapolis and at Holy Cross College, Notre Dame, IN.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at St. Joseph Chapel, Holy Cross College, South Bend, IN, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Mass at 3:30 p.m.

A memorial service takes place Friday, January 18 at St. Joseph Center, Valatie at 7 p.m. with at the center at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 19.

Sofia Olivia Roberts (2013 – 2013)

HUDSON—Sofia Olivia Roberts, infant daughter of Robert B. and Cassie L. (Meyer) Roberts, passed away at birth, Thursday January 10, 2013 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Surviving besides her parents of Catskill, are her maternal grandparents, Mary and Chris McKee of Catskill and cousins Debbie and Dale Ashby of Ancram. Sofia is also survived by two siblings.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 18, 2013 at 1 p.m. from the West Copake Reformed Church with the pastor, the Reverend Dr. Robert Charnin officiating.

Interment will follow in the West Copake Cemetery.

Arrangements are with the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, Copake.

Daniel O. Friebe (1963 – 2013)

PHILMONT—Daniel O. Friebe, of Philmont, passed suddenly January 14, 2013.

He was born May 16, 1963 in St. Cloud, MN, the son of the late Otto and Doreen Eveslage Friebe.

Mr. Friebe is survived by: his loving wife, Annmarie Friebe; his siblings, Steve (Gail) Friebe, Deborah Burks, Marjet (Grant) Knight, Mary (Lyle) Fester, Mark (Erma) Friebe, Kevin (Stephanie) Friebe and Michael Friebe; his dear cousins; nieces; nephews; great niece; great nephew; his dear friends, Tom Burks and Rob Warczecha.

He was the son-in-law of Barbara Burrows, William Burrows and Renate Waller. He will be especially missed by Penny and Chardonnay.

Mr. Friebe served his country for 22 years in the Army, retiring in 2005. At the time of his death, he worked at the Watervliet Arsenal. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and ice fishing.

Family will receive friends, Sunday, January 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham.

A prayer service will be conducted, Monday, January 21 at the funeral home at 7 a.m. Interment will follow at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
