Peter Rawson (1939 – 2012)

WEST LEBANON—Peter Rawson, 73, of Schoolhouse Road died peacefully on Friday, December 28 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born July 30, 1939 in Great Barrington, MA, he was the son of the late Ivan and Meta Butler Rawson.

He was the loving husband of the former Angela M. Eccles, whom he married July 16, 1966. A graduate of Pittsfield High School, Mr. Rawson attended the University of Miami before enlisting in the United States Air Force in October 1964. He was honorably discharged in 1969. Mr. Rawson worked at Honeywell in Albany for many years as a technician and salesperson.

After he retired, he started Rawson Realty in West Lebanon serving the people of the Taconic Valley and Berkshires. He was a longtime member of the New Lebanon Congregational Church serving in many leadership positions.

Mr. Rawson was a great “people person” always striking up a conversation with a handshake. He spent winters in San Diego, CA, to be with his grandchildren and loved fishing and hiking along with doing puzzles. His true love was his family.

Survivors include: his wife of 46 years, Angela M. Rawson; his children, Darren E. Rawson of La Jolla, CA, Joanna L. Rawson of Brookline, MA; grandchildren, Morgan, Delaney, Brody and Carter; great-grandchild, Kylie; siblings, Jack, Charlie, Bill, Don, Ivan, Judith, Art and David along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings, Roy, Frank, Edith, Dick, Doris and Anne.

A memorial service will be held January 5 at 11 a.m. in the New Lebanon Congregational Church at the corner of Routes 20 and 22. Private inurnment will take place at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.

Franklin D. Holt (1935 – 2012)

HUDSON—Franklin “Mickey” D. Holt passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family at Columbia Memorial Hospital, December 29, 2012.

Born January 30, 1935, in Hudson, he was the son of the late John E., Sr. and Charlotte Karcher Holt.

He is survived by his wife of 56½ years, Alice; his daughter, Karen (Scott) Lent; sisters, Janet (George) Herrle, Dorothy (John) Donaldson, Dolores (George) Gebhard, June Strobel; brothers, Russell Holt and Walter Rath. He was predeceased by his brother, John E. Holt, Jr.

Mr. Holt graduated from Chatham schools, after which he was employed at Streater’s. During his employment, he served his country in the Army. He returned to work his way up to become plant manager during his more than 20 years of service. When Streater’s closed its Chatham location, he went on to work at Crellin Plastics as a purchasing agent and credit manager. Mr. Holt worked there for 21 years before retiring.

He enjoyed all sports, especially baseball. He played high school ball and after graduating he played for the Blue Sox in the county league. As a young man he tried out for various professional ball clubs including the Boston Braves. He was inducted into the Chatham High School Hall of Fame in 2010.

Mr. Holt also loved music and taught himself to play the guitar when he was a young boy. He especially liked country music, playing with the Stoney Mountain Boys band, later known as Country Gold. He also wrote some of his own music which, along with other known hits, was recorded  on a CD produced by Kenny Seigel at Old Soul Studios in Catskill. He was known as Chatham’s yodeling cowboy.

He enjoyed animals and his family. He will be missed for his sense of humor.

Family will receive friends at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham, Wednesday, January 2, 2013 from 6 to 9 p.m. Religious services will be held at the funeral home, Thursday, January 3 at 11 a.m. Attendees should arrive at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Ghent Union Cemetery.

Robert C. Brown (1943 – 2012)

HUDSON—Robert C. Brown, 69, of Kinderhook died Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born July 18, 1943 in Brooklyn, he was a self-employed plumber and spent a number of years with the Lynbrook Fire Department and Rescue Squad in Lynbrook, six of them as an officer.

He was a member of the Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Kinderhook.

He is survived by: his wife, Eileen (Nelson) Brown of Kinderhook; two daughters, Christy Hopler of San Jose, CA, and Amy Brown of Kingston; one sister, Ellen Franklin of Florida; three brothers, Charles Brown of North Carolina, Donald Brown of Long Island, William Brown of Cleveland, OH; three grandchildren, Malachi, Gabriel and Ayla; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 7 p.m., Tuesday, January 15 at the Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Kinderhook. Burial will be in Long Island National Cemetery Friday, January 18. Calling hours will be Thursday, January 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Inc., Valatie.

William R. Tormey (1934 – 2012)

HUDSON—William R. Tormey, 78, formerly of Red Hook, died Sunday, December 30, 2012 at the Firemen’s Home.

He was born May 16, 1934. He was a life member of the Red Hook Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Squad and a member of the Red Hook Elks Lodge.

Services are private and at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made to the Red Hook Fire Volunteer Company.

Dorothy E. Rossman (1935 – 2012)

HUDSON—Dorothy E. (Miller) Rossman , 77, born in Hollowville, September 12, 1935, passed away peacefully at Columbia Memorial Hospital, December 23, 2012 after a short battle with cancer.

She was the daughter of the late Robert Miller and Bertha (Hamm) Miller.  She graduated from Ockawamick Central School 1955.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Kent Rossman of Copake Lake; daughters, Teri Hover of Claverack, Lisa (Mark) Nielsen of Ghent, Leah (Sala) Rossman of Andover, MA, Laci Rossman, of Foxboro, MA; son, Kent Rossman, Jr., of Stuyvesant; sister, Patricia Pectal, of Great Barrington, MA; grandchildren, Meghan and Ethan Nielsen of Ghent, Chazz Rossman-Chinoui of Andover, MA, Ryan Hover of Hudson, Ashley Hover of East Greenbush; great granddaughter, Destiny DeJesus of East Greenbush.

She was predeceased by brothers, Robert Miller, Jr., Bruce Miller; sisters Gloria Miller and Betty Pendergast.

Services will be private and interment at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the M. Grimaldi Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
