Burton Kendall (1935 – 2012)
ALBANY—Burton Kenneth Kendall, a life-long resident of Valatie, died September 11 at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany, after a brief illness. He was 77.
Born in Hudson June 6, 1935, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Grace Kendall.
He was a graduate of the Martin Glynn School and SUNY Cobleskill. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps. For many years he worked in law enforcement as a deputy for the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and also as the last chief of police for the Village of Valatie. He was later employed as a counselor at the Berkshire Farm Center and Services for Youth, Canaan. More recently, he worked as a security officer for special events at Hunter Mountain and at Cantine Park, Saugerties.
A former Pee Wee and Little League coach, he was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. He was also an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed skiing, golf, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Kendall of Valatie; two sons, Burton Kendall, Jr., of California, and Brent Kendall of Claverack; a step-daughter, DeAnna Bly-Chittenden (Hugh Chittenden) of Hudson; a step-son, Ronald Bly of Troy; two grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 15 at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Route 9, Valatie. Burial followed in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Valatie.

Elizabeth DeLaurentis (1937 – 2012)
LIVINGSTON—Elizabeth “Betty” J. DeLaurentis, 74, of Livingston passed away Monday, September 10 at Livingston Hills Nursing Home due to complications from a long illness.
Born November 10, 1937 in Queens, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Mary (Schiller) Drapeau.
Mrs. DeLaurentis was a well-known accomplished artist and was active in many artist guilds and associations in Columbia and Greene counties. She was also active on the family farm, Bryant Farms, and was a head teller for Key Bank in Hudson for many years. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Hudson.
Mrs. DeLaurentis leaves behind her loving husband, John E. DeLaurentis, whom she married April 26, 1958; two daughters, Joanne and her husband (Steven) Miller of Claverack and Denise and her husband (Jeff) Reese of Freehold; one sister, Dianne Vinopoll of Carmel; grandchildren, Jason, Tyler, Adam, Ben, Steve, Jr., Samantha and Jordyn; great-grandchildren, Colton and Payton. She was predeceased by a sister, Carolyn Scarcello.
Her first love was life, followed closely by home and family. Her love of nature surfaced in her paintings, mostly landscapes and wildflowers. She leaves behind her love of life through her children and grandchildren who remember her passion for nature—making the ordinary beautiful. Mrs. DeLaurentis’ unique way of looking at life through an artist’s eyes will always be treasured by her children who have memories of hiking in the mountains, going for walks and sketching whatever caught her attention, horseback riding, the beaches of the Jersey shore, skiing, cooking, biking, pottery and her love of not worrying about the stresses of life but instead embracing it.
Visiting hours will be Monday, September 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the
Sacco-McDonald-Valenti Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport.
Services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Winston Bath officiating.

Lauren A. Dapice (1989 – 2012)
On September 13, 2012, with her mother and grandfather at her side, Lauren Dapice lost her battle after years of illness and joined the ranks of God’s angels.
Born May 25, 1989 and diagnosed with kidney disease at age 2, Ms. Dapice faced her health struggles with courage, perseverance and a wonderful sense of humor.
She was proud of the many medical milestones she survived including three failed kidney transplants, cancer, a stroke and countless surgeries. Ms. Dapice was a fighter who touched and inspired so many with her heroism, her laughter, her joy and her compassion for others.
During times of wellness, she loved to cook, spend time with friends, take mother/daughter trips and charm those around her with her wit and beauty. She always put her own issues aside when a friend needed her support. She was a carefree spirit who was wise beyond her years.
She tried hard not to let her illness rule her life and participated on the Chatham High School tennis team and cheerleading squad, took college courses and played a role as a survivor in numerous Albany Medical Center Melodies of Christmas.
She was her mother’s greatest joy and best friend. As Ms. Dapice always said, they shared a special bond.
In addition to her mother, Denise Dapice, she is survived by: her grandfather, Thomas Martin, who she adored like a father; her father, Robert Dapice of White Plains; her stepfather, Barry Sears; grandmother, Kay Irish; step-sister, Jessica Sears; many aunts, uncles and cousins who adored her.
She loved flowers, animals and blue skies with white clouds.
Donations may be made to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society in her honor. Calling hours are at St. James Catholic Church at the corner of routes 66 and 203, Chatham, Monday, September 17 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held at St. James Church, Tuesday, September 18 at 11 a.m.

Albert E. Tuttle (1930 -2012)
ALBANY—Albert E. Tuttle, 82, of Chatham died Friday, September 14, 2012 at the Albany Veterans Administration Medical Center.
He was born July 20, 1930 in Bovina, the son of the late Ralph and Mary (Thorington) Tuttle.
Mr. Tuttle and his family operated a dairy farm in Delhi. In 1967, they moved to Chatham, where Mr. Tuttle was a truck driver for many trucking companies in the area for many years. Following his retirement, he was a teacher’s aide at the M.E.D. School in Chatham for five years. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and gardening.
He is survived by: his children, Pamela Tierney of East Greenbush, Mary Jane Adams of Arvada, CO, Robley Tuttle of Rochester, Jeffrey Tuttle of Stuyvesant, Gay Marie Watts of Lavista, NE, and Patricia McMullen of Orlando, FL; stepchildren, Jane Delaney of Ghent, Patricia (Patty) Baird of Rutland, VT, Barbara Fiero of Chatham and Robert Mantell of Chatham; sisters, Helen Stout of Juniper, FL, Shirley Clark of Queensbury and Margaret Finch of Schoharie; 26 grandchildren and 26 great- grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Irene Tuttle in 2010. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 18, 5 p.m. from the Wenk Funeral Home Chatham.
