Stephen Walsh (1952 – 2012)
ALBANY—Stephen Richard Walsh, 59, of Nassau passed away Monday, May 28, 2012, at Albany Memorial Hospital.
Born in Hudson, August 19, 1952, he was the son of Richard Walsh and Eleanor McNaughton Walsh of Chatham.
Mr. Walsh started his career in law enforcement as a Chatham Police Officer and retired as an officer with the New York State Department of Corrections, Hudson.
He graduated from Chatham High School and attended Columbia-Greene Community College in Greenport. Mr. Walsh was a member of the Chatham Fire Department and past officer with Sanford Hook & Ladder, a life member of the Chatham Rescue Squad, member of the Tri-Village Rod and Gun Club, member of S.A.S.S. and the NRA. Mr. Walsh was a participant in the New York State Finest Pistol Club and won several marksmanship awards in competition. He enjoyed fishing, boating and was a member of the Kinderhook Lake Corporation.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Jane Whiteman Walsh; four children, Michael Collier, Nicole (Paul) Jordan, Timothy (Crystal) Walsh and Jason (Coleen) Walsh; nine grandchildren, Erik, Jennifer and James Collier, Rachel, Katherine, Lindsay and Megan Jordan, Grace and Samuel Walsh. He is also survived by his mother, Eleanor Walsh and sisters, Colleen (Jeff) Steward and Judith (Nik) Torres and nieces and nephews.

Herbert Lant (1926 – 2012)
VALATIE—Herbert V. Lant, 85, of Guilderland, passed away Monday afternoon, May 28 after a brief illness.
Born in Albany, September 17, 1926, he was the son of the late Louis and Mae (VanAuken) Lant.
He was raised and educated in Voorheesville and Albany and served with honor in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1948. He was employed for 37 years, principally as a surveyor by the Niagara Mohawk Power Company, now National Grid USA, retiring in 1987. An avid fisherman, he won prizes on a number of occasions in the Genesee fishing contest. He was also an avid and savvy card player.
He is survived by: three sons, Steven Lant (Linda) of Poughkeepsie, Mark Lant (Randi) of Valatie and Christopher Lant (Sandra) of Carbondale, IL; a daughter, Karen (Shawn) Minogue of Meriden, CT; a sister, Beatrice of Albany; and seven grandchildren, Elliott, Sally, Sydney, Arielle, Hannah and Helen Lant and Taylor Minogue.
Mr. Lant was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Anne (nee, Rissberger), who passed away June 21, 2006.
The family received relatives and friends Saturday, June 2 at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Inc., Valatie. Burial was private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Edson Bennett, Jr. (1922 – 2012)
HUDSON—Edson L. “Bud” Bennett, Jr., of Hudson died Tuesday, May 29 at Community Hospice in Columbia Memorial Hospital. He was 90.
Born in Hudson, March 2, 1922, he was the son of the late Edson L. Bennett, Sr. and Edna B. (Potts) Bennett.
Mr. Bennett was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in the Asiatic and Pacific theatres as a military policeman.
He was a machinist with V&O Press in Hudson and a life member of A.B. Shaw Fire Company, Hoysradt Hose Company #8 and the Hudson V.F.W.
He is survived by his wife, Arline (Wesch) Bennett and several step-children. He was predeceased by his first wife, Kathryn (Wildermut) Bennett; one brother, Marcus Bennett and one cousin.
Funeral services were Friday, June 1 at the Sacco-McDonald-Valenti Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport, with Deacon Charles O’Neill officiating. Burial with military honors followed at Cedar Park Cemetery.
Joseph Simpson, Sr. (1935 – 2012)
HUDSON—Joseph Simpson, Sr., 76, of Hudson, died Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born July 23, 1935 in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of the late Frank and Gladys Simpson.
Mr. Simpson was an equipment operator for Turco Construction. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1950 to 1953. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family.
Surviving are: his children, Frank, Bill, Joseph, Jr., Vicki, JoAnne, Joette and JoSherry; several grandchildren, including Katina Dord and Sherri Snyder; many great-grandchildren; his brother, Howard; two sisters, Virginia Perry and Betty Worth and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Joan Simpson and his former wife, Cynthia Kenney.
