Jeffrey Otty, 51, Navy vet, road foreman

HUDSON—Jeffrey A. Otty, of Greenport, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at the Community Hospice at Columbia Memorial Hospital. He was 51.

Born January 20, 1960, he was the son of Robert T. Otty, Sr. and Dorothy Bennett Otty.

Mr. Otty graduated from Hudson City High School in 1978. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy.

He worked as a road foreman for the Columbia County Highway Department in Livingston.

On September 10, 1994, he married Carrie Sigler in Ancram. She survives him at home.

He was a member of the Hudson VFW Post 1314, a past commander of the American Legion Post #184 in Hudson and a member of the Hudson Elks Lodge #787. In addition, he was a member of the Becraft Pumper Company #2 in Greenport.

Mr. Otty was the president of the Hudson City School District Board of Education and a member of the Hudson Boosters, as well as, a member of the Federation of Polish Sportsmen in Hudson and the Germantown Park Commission.

In addition to his loving wife, Carrie, he is survived by: his parents, Dorothy and Robert T. Otty, Sr. of Greenport; his children, Angel M. Otty, Trevor J. Otty and Olivia K. Otty, all of Hudson; brothers, Robert T. Otty, Jr. of East Springfield and Timothy T. Otty of Germantown; and a grandson, Jayce Morrison.

A memorial service will be held Friday, September 30, 6 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Reformed Church, County Route 14, Greenport, with the Reverend David Tipple officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Legion Post #184, 7 Fairview Avenue, Hudson 12534, or the Columbia County VFW Post 1314, 544 Union Street, Hudson 12534.
