Verna Coster, 85, great cook, homemaker

KINDERHOOK—Verna M. Coster, 85, of Kinderhook, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2011 at home.

Born September 22, 1926 in Hudson, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Pearl (Lappies) Coxon.

Mrs. Coster was a homemaker and devoted to her family. She was a great cook and enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. She was a member of the Reformed Dutch Church of Claverack.

Mrs. Coster was the beloved mother of Lisa Coster of Kinderhook, Lori Childers of Greenport and Dale Coster of Castleton; devoted grandmother to her 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her nephew, David Coxon.

She was predeceased by her husband, John F. Coster; her son, Jon “Buddy” Coster; her daughter, Rinda Moore and her brother, Charles Coxon.

Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 28 at the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 29 at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson.

Helen Groh, 81, secretary, bird lover

HUDSON—Helen E. Groh, 81, of Germantown died Sunday, September 25, 2011 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born March 6, 1930 in Manhattan she was the daughter of the late James and Alice White.

Prior to her retirement, she was a secretary with KTB Associates of Saugerties for 16 years, a cafeteria worker at the Germantown Central School for 3 years and an Avon consultant for more than 25 years.

Mrs. Groh was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She was a bird lover and avid seamstress.

Survivors include: her husband, Edward W. Groh, whom she married October 14, 1950 at the Little Church Around the Corner in New York City; her son, Edward Groh of Macedon; her daughters, Margaret (David) Rose, Helen (John) Balazs and Janet (Denis) Crawford all of Germantown; one sister, Alice Sadlo of Florida; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two brothers, James and Edwin White.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 27 at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home of Germantown.

Services will be Wednesday, September 28, 10 a.m. at the Reformed Church of Germantown with the Reverend David Tipple officiating.

Interment will follow in the Reformed Church Cemetery, Germantown.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville 12211.

Arrangements are with the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, Germantown.

Daniel Decker, 80, beloved resident of Barnwell

VALATIE—Daniel Decker, 80, a longtime and beloved resident of Barnwell Nursing Home passed away peacefully following a long illness, September 14, 2011.

Graveside services will be held at the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Valatie, Sunday, October 2 at 1 p.m. Arrangements are with the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Inc., Valatie.
