Stanley J. Gansowski, 92, farmer, reader, collector
SHARON, CT—Stanley J. Gansowski, 92, passed away Friday, August 19, 2011 at Sharon Hospital.
He was born November 30, 1918, the son of the late Benjamin and Anna (Brosky) Gansowski.
Mr. Gansowski formerly owned and operated the Fox Hill Farm in Ancramdale. He was a longtime active communicant of the Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church in Copake Falls, and a former member of the Holy Name Society at Our Lady of Hope.
Mr. Gansowski was an avid reader. He loved gardening and collecting antique bottles.
On October 15, 1944, he married Margaret E. Malarchuk at the Immaculate Conception Church in Amenia. She predeceased him June 27, 2007.
He is survived by his two sons, Thomas Gansowski and his wife Louise of Ancramdale; Stanley “Stosh” Gansowski and his wife Carol of Copake; six grandchildren, Mark Gansowski, Lisa Farnam, Shawn McCann, Michael McCann, Meghan McCann and Justin Gansowski; and four great grandchildren, Keeley and Brendan Farnam, Oliver McCann and Jillian Gansowski. He is also survived by a son-in-law, William McCann of Copake, and a sister, Mary Comstock of Millerton.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Gansowski McCann in 1988, and by two brothers, Benjamin Gansowski and John Gansowski.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to Mr. Gansowski’s caregiver, Betty Shufelt.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated August, 23 from the Our Lady of Hope Parish with Fr. George Brennan officiating. Interment followed in the new St. Bridget’s Cemetery.

Muriel Schmidt, homemaker, pillar of stability
SHARON, CT—Muriel Virginia Schmidt, 94, of Hillsdale, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Sharon Hospital.
She was born in Elizabeth, NJ, August 28, 1916, the daughter of the late Edwin M. and Amelia (Charles) Davis.
Mrs. Schmidt lived first part of her life in northwestern New Jersey, mostly in Baleville. She and her husband, Edward Rodman Schmidt, retired to New Harbor, Maine in 1983. In 2009, she went to live with her son in Hillsdale.
She was a lifelong homemaker and a steadfast source of gentle support to her family. Over the decades, she was a pillar of stability, taking in and caring for relatives with grace and simplicity.
Mrs. Schmidt was a great reader and intelligent observer of the world. Those who knew her will always appreciate her warmth and her understated sense of humor. Her witty and informative letters were treasured by all.
She was a lover of animals, especially of cats.
Survivors include: a son, Robert E. and his wife Kathleen A. Schmidt of Hillsdale; a grandson, Alec J. Schmidt of Hillsdale; and a sister, Margaret J. Walbrecht of New Harbor, ME.
There are no calling hours.
A memorial service for her and her late husband will take place in Maine and will be announced at a later date.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one’s favorite animal charity.

Peter White, 63, musician, magician
HUDSON—Peter W. White, 63, of Germantown died Friday, August 19, 2011 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born August 30, 1947 in New Rochelle, he was the son of the late Peter and Dorothy (Wagner) White.
Mr. White was a music teacher and accomplished jazz percussionist. He also owned P&A Silks in Germantown, where he manufactured silks for magicians. He lectured and performed magic throughout the US, Canada and London.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia, whom he married December 9, 1990 in Somers.
A celebration of his life will be held from 5 to 7 pm, Wednesday, August 24 at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home in Germantown. Fr. Winston Bath will conduct services at 6:30 p.m.
