Charles Miller, 64, father, grandfather
W. TAGHKANIC—Charles R. Miller, of West Taghkanic died July 24 at home surrounded by family.
He was born in Hudson, November 19, 1946 to the late Harrison and Mildred Miller.
Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen P. Miller.
He is survived by: his sons, Ronald (Laurenda) Rockefeller of Maryland, Brett (Tracy) Miller of Red Hook and Michael (Frances) Miller of West Taghkanic; and his seven grandchildren, Ronald, Cynthia, Rachael Rockefeller of Maryland, Allyson and Camryn Miller of Red Hook, Luke and Mason Miller of West Taghkanic.
Private services will be attended by the family at Cedar Park Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Community Hospice of Columbia/Greene.
Arrangements are under the direction of the M. Grimaldi Funeral Home, Chatham.
Charles Chiusano, 85, WWII vet, truck driver
HUDSON—Charles C. Chiusano of West Taghkanic died Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Community Hospice in Columbia Memorial Hospital. He was 85. Born in Brooklyn, he was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Chiusano was a retired truck driver for Charmers Trucking in Long Island and later drove for Dierkes Transportation. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Friends may call at the McDonald-Valenti-Richards Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport, Thursday, July 28 from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Father Winston Bath officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.
Lorraine Carreira, 99, seamstress, founded church
GHENT—Lorraine Carreira of Greenport, formerly of Imperial Beach, CA, died Monday, July 25, 2011 at Whittier Nursing Home in Ghent. She was 99.
Born in New Bedford, MA, May 7, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Adelaide (Nascimento) Cravino Rose.
Mrs. Carreira was a seamstress for Rohr Manufacturing and also for the U.S. Navy in San Diego, CA. She was a founding member of St. Charles Roman Catholic Church in Imperial Beach, CA.
She is survived by: her daughter, Dolores M. Wrigley of Hudson, step-daughter Beverly M. Melanson of N. Dartmouth, MA and son, Kenneth M. Carreira of New Bedford, MA; one sister, Hilda Newton of MA; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Carreira in 2007; brothers, Michael, Joseph and Albert Cravino, and sisters, Adelaide Ptasienski, Ethelene Brites and Angelina Frates.
Calling hours will be Thursday, July 28 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at McDonald-Valenti-Richards Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the Church of St. Joseph in Stottville, 11 a.m., with Father Frank Falleta officiating.
Burial will be in the family plot at Cedar Park Cemetery.
