Jeanne Kirker, 86, worked in school cafeteria

HUDSON—Jeanne G. Kirker, 86, of Claverack, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 8, 1925 in Washington, D.C. to the late Alton and Gladys (Groat) Speer.

Mrs. Kirker was employed for more than 20 years in the cafeteria at the Hudson City School District. She also worked at Refrigeration Service with her late husband, Henry J. Kirker. She was a member of Emanuel St. John’s Lutheran Parish in Hudson and the Claverack Senior Citizens.

Mrs. Kirker loved life and enjoyed traveling with her friends, her pets, bird

watching, singing, cooking and spending time with her family. She was known for her strong spiritual faith and sunny disposition.

Surviving are her daughter, Diane Ingham of Claverack; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and many cousins, including Pat Brundage and Nancy Denegar.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Roland “Skip” Speer, her sister, Lois McClure, and two step-sons, Donald J. and Richard J. Kirker.

Calling hours are noon to 2 p.m. Monday, July 25 at the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. that day at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.

Caroline Barto, 87, loved polka hops and cooking

GHENT—Caroline Lena Barto, 87, of Livingston, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Whittier Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center.

Born August 11, 1923 in Hudson, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary Porreca.

Mrs. Barto was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings and friends. She loved to cook, have family gatherings and polka hops. She was a former member of the Mount Carmel Church.

Mrs. Barto was the beloved mother of Alfred Peter Barto of Greenport, Alana (Matthew) Kusewich of Stottville and Mary Ann (David) Fix of Livingston; devoted grandmother of Nicholas Barto, Matthew (Misty) Kusewich, Marc Kusewich, Mikala Kusewich, Lauren Fix, Angela Fix and David Fix, Jr.; loving sister of Lucy Pawluk and Mary (George) Stupplebeen; and special great-grandmother of Madeline Kusewich and Kalianna See.  Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred W. Barto; her siblings, Columbia Blanchard and Louis, Nicholas and Tony Porreca; and her granddaughter, Katie Kusewich.

Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 22 at the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home.

Prayers will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 23 at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson. Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.

Matthew Schoubye, 26, wrestling, Giants, Yankees fan

ALBANY—Matthew Schoubye passed away suddenly at Albany Medical Center Wednesday, July 20, 2011. He was 26 years old.

He was born September 4, 1984 in Syracuse. He was a graduate of the Devereux Foundation School in Red Hook, and was currently a resident of one of their community homes in Hudson. He was employed as a staff member at COARC for seven years.

Mr. Schoubye is survived by his loving staff members and housemates, who have worked with him and cared for him for many years. He was always a supportive friend to his housemates and peers. He will be missed by many, including his housemates, staff, friends and co-workers at COARC and the local community. He was a member of the Greenport Moose Lodge and was an avid wrestling, Giants, and Yankees fan.

He also loved partaking in the local community night life. “We will always love you and will keep you in our hearts, Schoubye! Fly high Buddy!”

Calling hours are 3 to 6 p.m., Saturday, July 23 at the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 25 at the Pentecostal Gospel Lighthouse Church, 2885 Atlantic Avenue, Stottville.
