Harold Richards, 80, Walmart greeter
HUDSON—Harold Richards, 80, of Stottville died Wednesday June 1, 2011 at Community Hospice in Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born in Brooklyn, April 29, 1921, he was the son of the late William and Margaret Richards.
Mr. Richards was a door greeter for 12 years, and formerly maintenance department manager for Walmart stores.
Survivors include two daughters, Aubretia M. Edick of Hudson and Jacqueline (Gary) Gadway of Plattsburgh; one son, Daryl Toulon of Manhattan; grandchildren, Sean and Gerald Gallagher, Adam Amrod, Regina Edick, Christine Gibson, Melissa Duquette, Eric and Elliott Butt, Earl and Elija Parks and Seth Case; as well as, 12 great-grandchildren and several cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy (Archer) Richards in 1991 and several brothers and sisters.
Calling hours will be Monday, June 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at McDonald-Valenti-Richards Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport.
Services begin at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Jaron Halsted of the Rock Solid Church officiating. Burial will follow in Ghent Union Cemetery, Ghent.
Oscar Stall, 87, worked for GE, liked country music
CASTLETON—Oscar P. Stall, 87, of New Lebanon passed away June 1, 2011 at Resurrection Nursing Home.
Born in Stuyvesant Falls May 9, 1924, he was the son of the late Phineas A. and Florence Hotaling Stall.
Mr. Stall graduated from New Lebanon Central High School and joined the US Army. He served in Company E of the 167th Infantry and received the Philippines Liberation Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, The Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
After the service, he went to work for General Electric for 36 years in the power transformer department.
He was a little league manager in New Lebanon for 10 years and he himself played softball with the Chatham Leagues until he was 54.
Mr. Stall was a member of the Lebanon American Legion, the Ghent V.F.W. and the GE Quarter Century Club. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed country music. He was also a retired shop steward for Local 125, of the National United Electrical Union.
He is survived by his children, Linda (Brent) Moshimer of New Lebanon, Edward (Dorothy) Stall of Berlin and Sharon (Paul) McCredie of Canaan; his nine grandchildren; his 14 great grand children; his brothers, Phineas, Donald, Harold and Ralph Stall; and his two dear friends Doris Moore and Rose Alfonso.
He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Mae Benjamin Stall and his brother, Kenneth Stall.
Family will receive friends Friday, June 3 at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham, from 5 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be celebrated at the funeral home Saturday, June 4 at 2:30 pm. Interment will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery.
