Eva May Brophy, 93, secretary, deacon
HOOSICK FALLS—Eva May Jenks Brophy, 93, formerly of Oak Street died Saturday, May 21 at the Hoosick Falls Health Center under the care of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County.
Born June 2, 1917 in New Lebanon, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Catherine Mickle Jenks. She was the widow of Francis Brophy.
A graduate of New Lebanon High School, Mrs. Brophy worked for General Electric in Pittsfield, MA, was a secretary for Dr. Wildman and Stanley Tools in Shaftsbury. She was a deacon at the First United Church.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Catherine Brophy Kyer and siblings, Ruth, Samuel and Alice Jenks.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Sulham of Hoosick Falls, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 26, 11 a.m. in the First United Church, Presbyterian, 130 Main Street, Hoosick Falls. Private burial will be in the Cemetery of the Evergreens in Lebanon Springs.

Jean Krafte, 85, earned college degrees after 60
HUDSON—After a long illness, Jean D. Krafte of Philmont passed away May 24, 2011 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 7, 1925 in Scranton, PA, the daughter of the late John and Mary Gratkowski.
She was a registered nurse trained at Scranton State Hospital and also a certified nurse anesthetist, who trained at Guthrie Clinic, Sayre, PA. After the age of 60, Mrs. Krafte went back to school and received an associate’s degree in criminal justice at Columbia-Greene Community College.
Following that she attended Russell Sage College, where she received a bachelor’s degree in criminal science and a master’s degree in public administration of human services.
She was active in many community organizations and served as president of Coarc.
She is survived by: her husband of 53 years, Dr. Burton Krafte of Philmont; her sons, Douglas Krafte of Carrboro, NC and Geoffrey Krafte of Philmont; her grandchildren, Corey, Katie and Grace all of Carrboro, NC.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Tom and Henry; and a sister, Gertrude. There will be no calling hours and a private service at the request of the family. Maureen Hall, 70, mother, grandmother
VALATIE—Maureen J, Hall, 70, of White Mills Road, Valatie, died Monday May 23, 2011 at her home surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Rensselaer, October 21, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Marie (Jones) Ganance.
Mrs. Hall was a homemaker, whose role in life was that of a loving wife, awesome mother and the “best grammy” to all her grandchildren.
She is survived by: five children, Doreen Fenoff (James) of Valatie, Robert N. Hall, III, (Renee) of Valatie, Lorleen Hermance (Larry) of Valatie, Thomas J. Hall (Sandra) of Castleton and Eileen Hall of Valatie; one brother, Joseph Ganance of Selkirk; three sisters, Veda Boyd of Rensselaer, Doris Hodges of Delmar and Marie “Lammy” Mull of Castleton; a sister-in-law, Dawn Hall Hitchcock of Maplecrest; 19 grandchildren; 4 great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She also leaves behind her darling cats, Angel Eyes and Miss.
She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Robert N. Hall, Jr.; her daughter, Kathleen Eitleman and six siblings.
Graveside services at Woodlawn Cemetery in Valatie will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
