Alfred Neven, 70, Delson’s manager, loved baseball
VIRGINIA—Alfred E. Neven, recently of Ashburn, VA, and a longtime resident of Chatham, passed away February 26 at the age of 70.
He was born January 28, 1941 in Chatham.
He attended school at the Spencertown Academy and graduated from Chatham High in 1958. He joined the US Air Force in 1960 and was honorably discharged in 1964. He attended Hudson Valley Community College and then went to work at Cadman & Droste Architects in Troy as a draftsman. He then spent the next 20 years as a manager at B.H. Delson’s in Chatham. From 1987 to 1992 he owned and operated Down the Line Rental in Chatham. From 1992 until 2008, he worked as a salesman at Resnick Mattress. He moved to Ashburn, VA in August 2009.
Mr. Neven was heavily involved in the Chatham sports scene while his kids were growing up. He held various positions with the Chatham Little League and the American Legion baseball team, as well as starting the Chatham Babe Ruth Baseball League.
During the 1980-81 school year, Mr. Neven led efforts to raise funds so that high school sports could be played that year.
He is survived by: his wife, Lois (Mann) Neven; children, Todd, Scott and Heidi Neven; daughter-in-laws, Jamie and Jeanette Neven; grandchildren, Zachary, Gabriela, Mia and Keira; brother, George Neven, Jr.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Neven, Sr. and Kathe Neven, and his brother, Robert Neven.
A memorial service will take place Saturday, April 2, 2011, 11 a.m. at the Spencertown Firehouse. Following the one hour service, the family invites everyone to stay for lunch and share memories of Mr. Neven.

Brenda McNeil, 66, delivered newspapers, liked wrestling
HUDSON—Brenda J. McNeil, 66, of Coxsackie died Monday at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. McNeil was born November 11, 1944 in Rhinebeck the daughter of the late Benjamin and Dorothy (VanWagner) Simmons.
Before she became disabled she had a delivery route for the Hudson Register Star. She enjoyed cooking and following the World Wrestling Federation.
Survivors include: her son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Tina McNeil of Livingston; brothers, John (Lydia) Simmons of Livingston, Gary Simmons of Ohio, Dane Simmons of North Carolina and Wayne Simmons of South Carolina; a sister, Deborah Holsapple of West Camp; grandson, Daniel of Cohoes; and loving niece, Cassandra Simmons of Coxsackie.
Memorial funeral services will be held Saturday, April 2, 11 a.m. at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home of Germantown. The Rev. David Tipple will officiate.
Joyce Signor, 74, sister, aunt
CANAAN—Joyce Signor died March 27 after a lengthy illness.
She was born October 4, 1936 in Hudson, the daughter of the late Albert and Catherine Folmsbee Sharp.
She was predeceased by her husband, Keith R. Signor and her sister, Ruth Maher.
She is survived by her brother, Dale Sharp of Plainville, CT; three nieces; three nephews; along with several great nieces and nephews.
Her family thanks Carrie Bither for her care and support.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, April 16, 1 p.m. at the Canaan Congregational Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chatham Rescue Squad.
