Ronald Nichols, 53, beautician, cat lover

HUDSON—Ronald J. Nichols, 53, of Hudson, died Monday, March 21, 2011 at his residence, after a long illness.

Born in Hudson April 14, 1957, he was the son of the late Herbert Nichols and Minnie Cook.

Mr. Nichols was a licensed beautician and worked for several local salons, including Scottie’s in Kinderhook. He was an avid cat lover.

Surviving are: his sister, Darlene Cornacchia of Livingston; his brother, Jack Milligan of Pennsylvania; his aunt, Barbara Metz of Greenport; his uncle, Albert Cook of Hudson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Herbert Nichols and William Milligan.

Services will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are with the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.

Shirley Cohen, 89, sense of humor, ready for adventure

SALINAS, CA—Shirley Adelle Savitsky Cohen, 89, formerly of Hudson, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011 at Hospice in Salinas, California, after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Born September 6, 1921 in the Bronx, she was the daughter of the late Abraham and Pauline (Stern) Savitsky.

She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Robert R. Cohen; two brothers, George and Salomon Savitsky; and her son, C. David Cohen.

Surviving are: two sons, Marvin S. Cohen of Salinas and Philip M. Cohen (Sondra) of Las Vegas, NV.; her daughter, Marilyn Eva Cohen Henderson (Brian) of Hudson, FL; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Cohen was a graduate of Hudson High School. She was a member of Congregation Anshe Emeth, was involved with local politics, and was a volunteer at the polling place on Warren Street.

She lived and loved life to the fullest. She was a very funny woman, and had a sense of humor that just couldn’t be stopped. Before MS took the use of her legs, she was quite a dancer and was always ready for a new adventure.

There will be no calling hours.

Services will be conducted Thursday, March 24, 1 p.m. at the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.

Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson.
