Marilyn Leiser, 84, wife, homemaker
GHENT—Marilyn C. Leiser, 84, of Kinderhook passed away March 5, 2011 at the Whittier Nursing Home.
Born January 25, 1927 in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ruby (Van Wormer) Miller.
She was the wife of the late Robert G. Leiser and a homemaker.
Mrs. Leiser is survived by two sons, Dale R. Leiser (Donna) of Kinderhook and Lindsey Leiser of Binghamton; one daughter, Susan Martino (Gerald) of Kinderhook; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
There are no calling hours. A graveside service took place March 8 in the Kinderhook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kinderhook Fire Company Santa Claus Club. Arrangements were with the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Inc., Valatie.
Gloria Pazera, 85, teacher in two school districts
DELAND, FL—Gloria Pazera, 85, of Deland, Florida and formerly of Niverville, died Saturday, March 5, 2011 at her home.
Born April 14, 1925 in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Guilford and Julia (Holloway) Howard.
Mrs. Pazera was a public school teacher for the Shenendehowa and Ichabod Crane School Central Districts.
She was the wife of Anthony F. Pazera of Deland, FL., who survives. Other survivors include: one daughter, Linda Baratier of Clifton Park; a brother William Howard of Colonie; one sister, Phyllis Cawley of Fayetteville, NC; granddaughters, Patricia Friedman and Valerie Wright and several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by sons, John and Joseph Pazera. Funeral services were March 9 at McDonald-Valenti-Richards Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport. Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.
Alonzo R. Thomas, 85, WWII vet, cutter
ALBANY—Alonzo R. “Red” Thomas, 85, of Route 22, Cherry Plain, died Saturday, March 5 at the Albany Medical Center Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of Helen E. Whitman Thomas.
Born in Petersburgh, March 4, 1926, he was son of the late Alonzo R. and Lulu Phillips Thomas.
He attended Stephentown Center School and Berlin High School. He was a resident of Cherry Plain for the past several years. He was a US Army veteran serving in World War II. He retired from the WJ Cowee Company in Berlin, where he worked as a cutter. He previously worked for Seagrott Greenhouse and North Pownal Tannery in Vermont. Mr. Thomas was also a member of the Berlin American Legion Post #937 and the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: his children, James W. (Shirley) Thomas of North Adams, MA, Susan (Andrew) Walters of Waterford and Michael Thomas of Berlin; his grandchildren, Becky Thomas, James J. Thomas, Beth Thomas, Meagan Hall, Michael Thomas and Valarie Thomas; 10 great grandchildren; and a sister, Armena Bilotta of Pittsfield, MA. He was predeceased by sisters Julia Kellar, Margaret Stevens, Lottie Bilotta, Ethel Moon and Gladys Thomas.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 10 at 11 a.m. in the Cherry Plain Community Christian Church, where Pastor Robert Michaels will officiate. Spring interment will be in the Berlin Community Cemetery.
Arrangements were with the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 State Route 43, Stephentown.
Edward Snyder, Sr., 81, police officer, Navy vet
HUDSON—Edward J. Snyder, Sr., 81, of Claverack, died Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born February 13, 1930 in Hudson, he was the son of the late James Henry and Cornelia (Shook) Snyder.
Mr. Snyder was a police officer in several North Carolina communities, serving as chief of the Rolesville, NC Police Department and as a sergeant in the Clayton, NC Police Department. He also worked in the maintenance department at Columbia Memorial Hospital and drove bus for COARC.
He served in the US Navy during the Korean War.
Mr. Snyder was a volunteer fireman with the Staatsburg Engine #2, serving as first captain.
Surviving are: his beloved wife, Bogustawa “Bogie” (Strycharczyk) Snyder of Claverack; his devoted children, Mark Snyder of Virginia, Jay (Jan) Snyder and Kyle (JoAnn) Snyder, both of Clayton, NC and Sue (Brooks) Kirlin of Oklahoma; his loving grandchildren, Meaghan, Jordan, Brandon, Carly, Kaitlan, Jeni, Kayla, Christy, McKenna and Macy; three great-grandchildren, Cameron, Logan and Isis; his great-great granddaughter, Samantha Ritch; two nephews, James L. Shook and Gerald S. Shook, Jr.; a great-niece, Mindy and great-nephew, Christopher.
He was predeceased by his brother, Gerald S. Shook, Sr.
Funeral services were conducted March 9 at the Bates & Anderson—Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home.
Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
