Hazeletta Vreeland, 90, poet, antique collector
COPAKE—Hazeletta Vreeland of Copake died peacefully at her home Friday, February 18, 2011. She was 90 years old.
She was born Hazeletta Florence Patton in Yonkers, January 16, 1921.
She attended Yonkers Public Schools and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Yonkers.
She married William Clark Vreeland in 1940. They were together for 65 years, until his death in 2005.
During World War II, Mrs. Vreeland worked for the US Army Signal Corps while her husband fought in the South Pacific. Later, she worked as an administrator for the Board of Education in Yonkers. They had two children, Thomas Sherman and Donna Louise. When she and her husband came to Copake in the 1980s she was a realtor and ran an antique shop in Hillsdale.
A lifelong poet, Mrs. Vreeland was published and won numerous awards and prizes. An avid collector of antiques, she specialized in American Art Pottery.
She is survived by her son, Thomas of Hillsdale, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 23 at the Hillsdale Rural Cemetery with the Rev. John Thompson of the Church of St. John in the Wilderness in Copake Falls, officiating.

Dorothy Novak, 81, auxiliary charter member
HUDSON—Dorothy “Duty” R. Novak, 81, of Eichybush Road, Kinderhook passed away February 20, 2011 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late William F. and Mina (Leiser) Rothermel.
She is survived by her sons, Robert Novak ,Jr., (Cindy) of Kinderhook and Richard Novak, Sr., (Sandy) of Stockport; three granddaughters, Dawn Morgan (Mat), Alicia and Amanda Novak, all of Kinderhook; a grandson, Richard Novak Jr. of Stockport; her adored great grandchildren Brooke and Mathew Morgan, also of Kinderhook; a sister, Lillian Mieske, sister-in-law, Virginia Rothermel, brother-in-law, Fred Oles and family friend Gertrude Duffield, all of Kinderhook; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Bob Novak, after 53 years of marriage, and her siblings Eva Oles, Charles and Edward Rothermel, all of Kinderhook.
Mrs. Novak worked at the family businesses several years. She also worked for the Kerr McGee Chemical Company. She finished her career at Ichabod Crane High School math lab assisting students, which she adored.
In 1953, Mrs. Novak became a charter member of the Palmer Engine and Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary. She held several offices during her lifetime membership.
There will be no calling hours. The family will hold a private funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palmer Engine and Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary, c/o Karl Ann Powell, Box 705, Kinderhook 12106. Arrangements are with the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Inc., Valatie.
Daniel Harvey, Jr., 71, Navy vet, served on destroyer
STUYVESANT—Daniel K. Harvey, Jr., 71, of Rossman Road, Stuyvesant died Saturday, February 19, 2011 at home.
Born in Bridgeport, CT, October 18, 1939, he was the son of the late Daniel K. and Ethel (Mullane) Harvey Sr.
Mr. Harvey was a veteran of the US Navy and served on a destroyer from 1957 to 1963. He was employed by Bellmont Management in Buffalo.
He was the beloved husband of Shirley (Marcus) Harvey of Stuyvesant and was the loving father of four children, Jennifer Boehm of Cairo, Beth Hoffarth of Stuyvesant, Daniel Harvey, III, of Arizona and Scott Harvey of New England.
He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 1 great grandson and several nieces and nephews and a loving extended family.
He was predeceased by his sister, Catherine Mary Harvey.
The family thanks Dr. Neal Baillargeon and Dr. Louis Clinton and all their staff for all the wonderful care and kindness they gave during Mr. Harvey’s illness.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 25, 11 a.m., at the Church of St. Joseph, Stuyvesant Falls, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Frank O’Connor. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Stuyvesant Falls. Relatives and friends may call Thursday, February 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Inc., Route 9, Valatie.
