VALATIE—Charles M. Fuda, Sr., 73, of Garrigan Road, Valatie, died Thursday, January 20, 2011 at his home.
Born in Albany, March 23, 1937, he was the son of the late Charles Mann and Mildred (Tesch) Fuda.
Mr. Fuda attended Philip Schuyler High School in Albany and SUNY Cobleskill.
He was a Coast Guard veteran stationed in New York Harbor and Stepping Stones Lighthouse on Long Island Sound. He joined the New York State Police in 1962 and retired in 1989. He was a past Kinderhook Town highway superintendent, a member and past commodore of the Hook Boat Club in Stuyvesant; a member of the Palmer Engine and Hose Company in Kinderhook and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stuyvesant.
Mr. Fuda enjoyed his pets, boating, staying at his camp at the Hook Boat Club and tinkering with farm machinery.
He is survived by his wife, Jane (Magsamen) Fuda of Valatie; four children, Charles “Corky” Fuda (Nadine) of Castleton, Ruth Wormald of Mkuu, Tanzania and Apex, NC, Marie Scott (Andrew) of Valatie, Daniel Fuda (Janice) of Valatie; two sisters, Carol Guptill of Andover, NH and Elizabeth “Betsy” Schmidt of Brunswick, ME; a brother, Paul Fuda of Albany; seven grandchildren, Charles M. Fuda, III, David Wormald, Jared Myers, Jonathan and Elizabeth Wormald, Ashley Fuda and Dana Scott; one great grandson, Michael Charles Fuda; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 25, 11 a.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Inc., Route 9, Valatie, with the Rev. David Nuss officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Valatie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New York State Troopers Foundation, 3 Airport Park Boulevard, Latham 12110-1441.
