Margaret Maitland, 92, matriarch of big family

VALATIE—Margaret “Peggy” Maitland, 92, died at her home here, January 6, 2011.

She was born February 25, 1918 at 24 Cable Street, Belfast, Ireland to David McIlwain and Annie Laird McIlwain. She is the widow of Thomas Maitland, who died July 1988 in Hudson.

Mrs. Maitland was the mother of Jean Maitland, who died as an infant; Anne Maitland Pitts, Evelyn H. Weber (Ted), Paul Michael Maitland and Thomas Philip Maitland (Janet). She was grandmother to Darryl J, Pitts, Derrick J. Pitts, Melissa Canarelli Kimberly Bardes, Daniel Joseph, Andrew Joseph, Jason Maitland, David Maitland, Kevin Maitland, Sarah Maitland, Andrew Maitland, Danielle Maitland, Megan Maitland, Lauren Maitland and Thomas Hernandez, who predeceased her in 1989; great grandmother of 11; great-great grandmother of 7.

Mrs. Maitland leaves her sisters, Betty Ogle and Evelyn (Duane) Messinger. She joins her brothers and sisters in the Glory of our Lord, James, Mary Anne, Samuel, David, Annie, Wallace and Agnes, who went ahead to prepare her way.

She is mourned by many nieces and nephews from Northern Ireland, Australia and California.

She also loved her church family at Clearview Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Schodack, and Manor Baptist Church in San Leandro, Calif., and was much loved by them in return.

A memorial service will be conducted January 15, 2011, 11 a.m. at the Clearview Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at The Chapel of the Chimes, Hayward, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Clearview Christian and Missionary Alliance Church Memorial Fund, 275 Schodack Drive, Castleton 12033.

Funeral arrangements are with the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Valatie.
