HUDSON—Kurt R. Becker, 78, of Cortland Drive, Valatie died Saturday, December 18, 2010, at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born in the Bronx, February 23, 1932, he was the son of the late Walter and Gertrud (Fuerst) Becker, Sr.
Mr. Becker graduated from the prestigious Stuyvesant High School in New York City in 1949. While there, he set swimming records.
He served in the US Army in an armored division during the Korean War. He graduated from SUNY Albany in 1958 and excelled as a teacher in Richfield Springs.
He was the superintendent of schools in the Otsego, the Norwood-Norfolk and the Ichabod Crane School disitricts. He enjoyed wood working and gardening and was involved with Save the Greyhounds.
He is survived by his wife, Maria do Carma F. Becker of Valatie; two sons, Kent Becker (Kara) of Valatie and Kyle Becker (Patricia) of Texas; a step-son, Felipe Crespo of Recife, Brazil; a brother, Walter Becker (Mary) of Coxsackie; four grandchildren, Kendra, Kyra, Kristen and Kyle Becker Jr.; a nephew, Erik Becker; and a niece, Lori Larison.
Funeral services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Inc., Valatie.
