Walter Whipple, 70, had a wonderful life

GERMANTOWN—Victor L. DelPozzo, 88, passed away peacefully at home February 27, 2025.

Born May 20, 1936 in Yonkers to Caroline and Carmine DelPozzo, “Vic” moved to Germantown in 1948 with his parents and siblings, Rosemarie, Ralph and Vera. They lived in North Germantown on a property that is fondly known as “The Hill.” He grew up in the main house and moved to another house on the property when he started his family. His siblings lived on the same property with his father creating homes for his sisters and brother. The property remains in the DelPozzo family and has expanded to include his nieces and nephews. He lived in Germantown the rest of his life and passed away at the family homestead.

He married Dorothy Margan, April 19, 1958 in the Resurrection Church, Germantown. They had four children, Victor, Richard, Renee and Christopher, all raised in Germantown and living close to his parents, “Nanny and Gramp,” siblings and nieces and nephews. He cherished time with his family that included Sunday dinners which continued throughout his life.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Caroline and Carmine DelPozzo and beloved daughter, Renee. He is survived by: his wife of 66 years, Dottie DelPozzo; children, Victor (Terry Clas), Richard (Jami) DelPozzo and Christopher (Lisa) DelPozzo. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Jason, Brianne, Ashley, Bradley, Alex, Ryan, Brady, Olivia, Sofia and Julia and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by: his sister, Rosemarie Meacher; brother, Ralph (Nancy) DelPozzo; sister, Vera (Tom) Colwell and many nieces and nephews.

He worked with his father at DelPozzo & Sons Masonry. He went on to work for U.S. Trust Co for 20 years as records center manager. He and his wife owned and operated the Country Cone, a popular ice cream and food stand while he worked full-time for U.S. Trust. After that, he worked as a driver for Taconic Farms, then became a correction officer for NY State Department of Corrections from where he retired.

He was an active member of the community and was a member of the Germantown Lions Club and an elected Germantown town assessor. His hobbies included bowling, hunting, playing tennis and enjoying the company of his family and friends.

After retirement he and his wife spent winters at their condo in Bradenton, FL, where they had an active social life and many friends. He was active with the condo board and helping maintain the building.

Family and friends celebrated his life March 4, 2025 at the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson. Interment will be in the Reformed Church Cemetery in Germantown.
