RHINEBECK—Leona Saulpaugh, 98, of Germantown, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2010 at the Thompson House in Rhinebeck.

Born April 22, 1912 in Livingston, she was the daughter of the late James and Jennie (Brenzel) Ploss.

Mrs. Saulpaugh was a homemaker and also worked in various capacities at the George W. Saulpaugh Fruit Farm.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Manorton and a Sunday school teacher for more than 20 years.

Mrs. Saulpaugh was a volunteer for many community affairs for 50+ years. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and crocheting.

Surviving are her daughter, Joyce (Kenneth) Hawkins of Bedford, NH; her daughter-in-law, Janet Saulpaugh of Elizaville; one grandson, Ken Hawkins, III of Maine; one granddaughter, Kim Hawkins of Mass., five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, LaVerne Saulpaugh, two sons, George and Alan Saulpaugh, two brothers and three sisters.

Calling hours are from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, December 10 at the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home. Services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Red Hook.
