John Caggianelli, 81, former Hudson alderman

GREENPORT—John Joseph Caggianelli of Greenport died Thursday, November 4 at his home. He was 81.

Born in Rhinebeck, November 6, 1928, he was the son of the late Antonio and Maria (Cappillino) Caggianelli.

Mr. Caggianelli was a member of the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Hudson and the Holy Name Society as well as being an altar boy there for 27 years and attended St. Anthony’s Friary in Catskill. He was a member of the Hudson B.P.O.E. # 787, Hudson Moose Lodge and was the former fifth ward alderman in Hudson.

Survivors include his wife Margaret “Peg” (Antonelli) Caggianelli at home; one son, John A. and (Mavis) Caggianelli of Greenport; two brothers, Augustine “Bud” Caggianelli of NC, formerly of Germantown; and Theodore Caggianelli of Florida, formerly of Kingston; two sisters, Marie Alfano of CT., and Regina Caggianelli of Schenectady.

He was pre-deceased by one daughter, Michelle Caggianelli; brothers, Anthony C., Michael, Edward and Joseph Caggianelli; as well as two sisters, Rose Celelli and Madelyn Ferri.

Calling hours are Sunday, November 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McDonald-Valenti-Richards Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday, November 8, 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 429 E. Allen Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson.
