GHENT—William E. Akin Jr., 54, of Ghent, passed away October 19, 2010.
He was born on June 29, 1956 in Hudson, the son of William E. Sr. and Ann (Rossman) Akin.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Rita (Schermerhorn) Akin; a son, William E. Akin, III; a daughter, Ashley A. Akin; a sister, Bonnie Wheeler; and his father William Sr.
He worked at LB Products and was a member of the Ghent VFW Social Sons, the Ghent Sportsman’s Club, Christ Lutheran Church and a member of the BS crew. He was most proud of being a life member of the Ghent Fire Company receiving the Lyle Wagner Fireman of the Year Award in 2003 and later receiving the Line Officers Award. He was a past lieutenant and was currently the captain of the Fire Police.
He was an avid camper and loved to fish. He looked forward to going on cruises to the Caribbean. He was a loving husband and father and leaves behind many friends and family who will miss him dearly.
He was predeceased by his mother, Ann (Rossman) Akin.
Family will receive friends Friday, October 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the French, Gifford, Preiter and Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham. Religious services at the funeral home will be presided over by Pastor Slater following the calling hours at 6 p.m.
