Lester Dings, 84, WWII vet, worked at Sterling Organics

COLUMBIA, Missouri—Lester C. “Sonny” Dings, 84, entered into eternal life Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Boone County Hospital following a long illness.

Born July 26, 1926 in Hudson, he was the son of the late Melvin and Carrie (Kirby) Dings.

 

Mr. Dings was raised in Valatie and moved to Columbia, Missouri in 1990. He was a US Navy veteran and served in WWII on the USS LST 833 in the Pacific.

He and was a member of the J.W. McConnell American Legion Post #47, VFW, and Elks and Moose Clubs. He was employed by Sterling Organics for 41 years and retired in 1989.

Mr. Dings enjoyed good friends, family history and talking about old times.  He was an avid hunter, fisherman and storyteller. He will be truly missed by many who knew and loved him.

Survivors include, his devoted wife of 33 years Erna (Heidebrecht) Dings; his son, Charles Dings (Ellen) of Nassau; a daughter Claudia Dings of Valatie; and Greg (Sigrid) Krause of Tonkawa, Oklahoma. Mr. Dings was predeceased by an infant son, Paul.

Funeral services will be private and a memorial service will be planned at the convenience of the family.
