HUDSON—Maria Leggieri West, 83, of Claverack, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Columbia Memorial Hospital. She was a resident of Whittier Nursing Home in Ghent.
Born January 13, 1927 in Hudson, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Adalgisa (D’Inguillo) Leggieri.
Mrs. West, a long-time resident of Ithaca, worked at Cornell University for 25 years as assistant director of intramural athletics until her retirement.
She and her husband were summer residents of Chatham, Mass. for 49 years.
Mrs. West is survived by her daughter, Nancy (David) Mintzer of Pleasantville; her son, John (Victoria) West of Herndon, VA; two grandchildren, Rebekah and Samuel Mintzer; her brother, Rudolph Leggieri, and two sisters-in-law, Trudy Leggieri and Helen Leggieri. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Robert West, her brother, Gerald Leggieri, and three sisters, Celeste Kearny, Katherine Vincent and Margaret Harms.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 11 at the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.
Visiting time for family and friends is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson.
