Peter Martino, 71, hockey dad, mason/plasterer

ALBANY—Peter A. Martino, 71, of Pinehill Park, Valatie, and formerly of Pawling, died peacefully with his family by his side Sunday, August 1, 2010, at the Albany Medical Center.
Born in Poughkeepsie, April 28, 1939, he was the son of the late Anthony and Ella Mae (Horton) Martino.

Mr. Martino was a US Navy veteran, who served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He worked for the New York State Department of Maintenance in Wingdale as a mason plasterer. He was a loving, caring, generous husband, father and grandfather, who was always willing to help anyone.
Mr. Martino was a hockey dad and loved hunting, sports and working in the yard. He played football in high school and was a former member of the Pawling Knights of Columbus and the Dover Plains/Wingdale VFW.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gayle (Collins) Martino of Valatie; three children, Stacey Vigeant of Mansfield, MA, Tracey Ambrosino of Niskayuna, and Tony Martino of New York City; and a sister, Nazerine Zerbato of Florida. He was Papa to Ryan and Tanner Ambrosino, Philip and Emily Vigeant and was also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Thursday, August 5 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Route 9, Valatie. Funeral services follow at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. The Reverend John Molyn will officiate. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
