ALBANY—Mildred Elizabeth Myers Fitting, 80, passed away peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospital surrounded by her family after a short illness July 19, 2010.
She was born August 19, 1929 to Bertrand and Alice (Best) Myers in Stockport. She and her husband John Philip “Phil” Fitting, Sr. married August 29, 1948. They enjoyed 55 years together until the time of his passing in 2004.
Her full-time occupation was raising her children and keeping the home fires burning. She was a great success at both. The house was frequently full of friends and family, who took pleasure in her coffee and treats at every visit.
For several years she served as both a Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Stuyvesant Falls.
As her “boys” went through school, she was proud to serve as their room mother.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Fitting was predeceased by her brothers, George, Claude and Clarence Myers.
She is survived by her brother Lawrence Myers of Hudson; her children, John and David, both of Columbiaville, Gordon and Susan (Bennett) of Delmar; grandson, Matthew of Delmar; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Margaret Molnar, Marie Shook, Chris and Peggy Fitting; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Thursday, July 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Route 9, Valatie.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 23, 10 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Stuyvesant Falls, with the Reverend Stark Jones officiating. Interment will be in the West Ghent Cemetery.
