VALATIE–Valatie Village Mayor Diane Argyle said at the Village Board meeting October 22, that state crews have started work on removing the exit lane, also called the slip lane, off of Route 9 onto Main Street.

The state is putting in a right turn lane on Route 9 and moving the grassy triangle. The changes are being made to make the crosswalk on Main Street safer and so that the state can use part of the road for the Albany-Hudson Electric Trail.

The 36-mile trail, mostly along the National Grid right-of-way, cuts through the village and crosses Main Street at that intersection. Mayor Argyle said the state plans to work for three weeks and then will be back in the spring to finish.

State Police Troop K, Zone 1 Commander Dave Kolb was at the meeting and asked about the intersection. He said that residents should call if there are any issues with the trail. Mayor Argyle and Village Attorney Rob Fitzsimmons both said they have met with the state Department of Transportation about intersection before construction started and voiced their concerns.
