The backpack program at Scott M. Ellis Elementary School is run by the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York and helps alleviate child hunger by discreetly providing children in severe need with bags of nutritious and easy-to-prepare food every Friday afternoon, so they have food to eat throughout the weekend.
Since coming to Greenville in 2013, the backpack program has provided over 48,000 meals to elementary school families in need. School Counselor Jenn Payne helps facilitate the program at the elementary school.
The number of program spots available is limited due to funding and is based on counselor and administrator referrals.
To help keep the program going in Greenville, monetary donations are needed. If you would like to donate, please do so by visiting www.classy.org/give/420462/#!/donation/checkout
When making your donation, choose Children’s Programs in the dropdown menu. Then, in the textbox below, write “Greenville Elementary/Scott M. Ellis Backpack Program Agency #1766B.”
Donations are tax-deductible; you will receive an email receipt as your official record.
Every $1 donated funds four meals for Greenville students in the program.
