RAVENA-COEYMANS-SELKIRK — School officials are looking into a pair of incidents this week of threats written on the wall at the RCS Middle School.

The threats involved a potential shooting at the school and were penned on the wall of the middle school girls’ bathroom, according to a statement from RCS District Superintendent Dr. Brian Bailey.

“The threat mentioned a possible shooting at school,” Bailey said. “The threat itself is being investigated to determine how and when it was written.”

Local police have been notified of the incident and will be investigating, along with school officials.

“Making a threat of violence against a school, either verbally or in writing, is a crime,” Bailey said. “The school is pursuing it as a crime and the perpetrator will be held accountable.”

The superintendent asked families to reinforce with students that school officials take safety seriously.

“Safety for our students and staff is our number one priority, and we always take all threats very seriously here at RCS,” Bailey said. “If any student sees or hears anything suspicious, we ask that they immediately report these concerns to a trusted adult, district administration, and/or law enforcement.”

“We will continue to work with local and regional law enforcement to keep our schools safe,” Bailey continued.
