RCS seniors rack up awards and scholarships

RAVENA-COEYMANS-SELKIRK — The RCS school district handed out senior awards and scholarships to dozens of students in the Class of 2023.

Coeymans:

Postmaster Harry Carhart is enjoying a vacation and is visiting in the western part of the state.
The Philathea Class of the M.E. church Sunday school have presented a handsome electric desk lamp for use on the pulpit of the church.
A number of ladies enjoyed a day’s outing to Kingston Point last Thursday, going and returning by the Hudson River Day Line steamer.
It is reported that the Upper Hudson Electric Co. has taken over the property which the Municipal Gas Co. bought from the Atlantic Light and Power Co. They have a force of men and boys at work taking on inventory of poles and equipment.
The annual meeting of the inhabitants of Union Free School district No. 1, Coeymans, NY, qualified to vote at school meetings in said district will be held at the high school building in said district on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 1923, at 7:30 p.m. (new time) for the purpose of electing two members of the Board of Education to succeed Justin L. Bishop and Andrew Ziegler, whose term of office will expire July 31, 1923.

Ravena:

Miss Lelita Travis has secured a position as stenographer at the Duffy Mott Co.
Bear in mind the German picnic which will be held at Fink’s Grove on Aug. 8. A big time is in store for all who attend.
All is in readiness for the arrival of the “Service Progress Special,” the New York Central Line’s railroad exhibition, which will be held at Ravena, Aug. 1, and open to visitors between 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. Standard Time at the West Shore railroad station.
Through the E.A. Strout Farm Agency, the 15-acre farm of Elizabeth Marshall has been sold to Mrs. Elsa Anderson of Brooklyn, NY.
The bake sale of the Methodist church will be held at the village water office on Main Street on Saturday, at 3 o’clock.
A car of wool caught fire while standing near the freight house on Monday afternoon and the local fire truck responded and put out the blaze. The car was then removed to the town track and again the car ignited but was soon extinguished.

Masons are relaying the embankment wall which surrounds the Acton Civill property.
The largest excursion of the season visited Baeren Island yesterday. It was Our Lady of Angels parish in Albany. There were four barges and the steam “Belle Horton.”
The officers and members of the Coeymans Volunteer Fire Company are requested to meet at the Herald office Friday evening at 7:30, for the transaction of business of importance.
A reception was given to the Coeymans baseball club by Miss Helen Swarthout, Miss Ida Long and Miss Jennie Phillips at Miss Swarthout’s home on Friday evening. Ice cream, lemonade and cake were furnished in great abundance.
