Procedures put in place for reopening

HUDSON—Fifty percent of county staff return to onsite work Monday, June 8, Columbia County Board of Supervisors Chairman Matt Murell said this week, according to the county-issued June 4 Covid-19 update press release. Public accessibility to reopened buildings will begin Monday, June 15.

“Throughout the reopening process and going forward, the county’s first concern is to provide all employees and visitors with a healthy, productive, and safe working environment,” Chairman Murell said in the release.

Among the items in the extensive list of procedures and protocol, gleaned from Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and New York State Department of Health guidelines for conducting business, are the following:

*Physical distancing will be maintained in the workplace and everyone must be prepared do don a mask if someone comes within six feet

*For the public entering a county building, if someone does not have a face covering one will be provided

*Regular cleaning and disinfection of shared surfaces, as well as highly trafficked areas, will be completed

*Employee screening in the form of temperature checks and health screening questionnaire will be done daily.

“We are all responsible for the health and safety of our fellow employees and citizens. We ask everyone to do their part to follow all procedures and protocols to ensure a healthy tomorrow,” said Chairman Murell.

Updated virus numbers

For a fourth day, the coronavirus death toll in Columbia County remains at 34 residents as of June 4 at 3:30 p.m., according to the Columbia County Department of Health (DOH) numbers update at https://www.columbiacountynyhealth.com/home/coronavirus-covid-19/

The DOH has received a total of 5,458 PCR test results with 394 confirmed positive cases.

There are currently 108 active cases of Covid-19 in Columbia County with 49 additional residents on mandatory quarantine and 12 residents on precautionary quarantine.

Of the total 394 cases, 252 cases have recovered from the virus; 18 of the positive cases are hospitalized, 1 of those hospitalized is in the ICU.

The DOH has received 1,482 antibody results, of which 141 were positive.

A coronavirus testing clinic open to everyone takes place at the Columbia County Fairgrounds, 142 Hudson Avenue (Route 66) in Chatham, Sunday, June 7, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
