GREENVILLE — Voters in the Greenville school district are slated to head to the polls Tuesday, Dec. 6, to vote on a proposed $14.5 million capital improvement project.
If approved, the project would include renovations at all three schools in the district, with the majority of the work taking place at Scott Ellis Elementary School.
District officials say the project would be funded through the use of capital reserve funds that are on hand and an $11 million bond.
However, because of state aid, the project is not expected to impact the tax rate, District Superintendent Michael Bennett said.
The parameters of the proposed project were determined through the state-mandated Building Condition Survey that is required every five years to identify facilities’ needs, as well as input from administration, faculty and the district’s Building Services Committee.
At Ellis, improvements would include safety features, expanded classrooms, improvements to pre-kindergarten classrooms — such as the addition of an in-class bathroom — new technology, new floors, added storage facilities and a larger multi-purpose gym addition, along with other improvements.
Work would also be included at the middle/high school, such as redesigned art and music suites, masonry, roofing, heating and cooling facilities, and asbestos abatement.
The project’s budget includes $11,908,904 for work planned at the elementary school, and $2,671,096 at the middle/high school. An additional “wish list” of improvements, project permitting, would come to $1,437,546.
Construction would begin in May 2024 and is expected to be completed in November 2025.
Voting on the project will take place tomorrow, Dec. 6, from 3-9 p.m., at Scott Ellis Elementary School, 11245 Route 32, Greenville.
