Hudson Police are looking for the owner of this malnourished dog found abandoned last night.HUDSON–Around 12:15 a.m. Friday, August 30, city patrol officers found a malnourished male dog tied with a rope to a gate at the Hudson River waterfront.

Hudson Police Department Lt. Lynne M. Finn said Friday afternoon that the dog is white with black spots and may be a pit bull-Dalmatian mix. The officers who found the dog summoned city Animal Control Officer Wes Powell, who took it to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA (http://cghs.org).

Lt. Finn said the chain-link fence gate where the dog was found was near the salt pile at the end of South Front Street. She said that city employees had been working at the site Thursday and the dog was not there when they left at the end of normal business hours.

Police are still seeking information about the dog. They do not know its owner. Anyone with information should call the HPD at 518 828-3388 or the direct line for city detectives, 518 828-9900.

A Columbia-Greene Humane Society spokeswoman said Friday that the dog appears to be about 5 years old and does not have any life-threatening injuries from its abandonment.

“We’re definitely going to nurse it back to health,” she said.
