HUDSON—Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Arlene M. Hogan, age 97, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family February 9, 2025.
She was born June 2, 1927 and was raised on the family farm in Lisbon, NY. After graduating from Lisbon High School, she attended Binghamton City Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1948. Upon graduation, she worked as a certified public health nurse in Philadelphia, PA. She returned to New York and graduated from Syracuse University with a BS in nursing in 1951 and went to work as a certified public health nurse in White Plains. In 1955, she accepted the position of school nurse for Morristown and Hammond. She met her future husband, James “Jim” D. Hogan, Jr., while working in Hammond. After heading to California in 1957 for a short time, she returned to NY and married Mr. Hogan, November 23, 1957. She was a stay-at-home mom for their three children until 1966, when she went back work as the school nurse at Hudson Middle School, Hudson. She worked there until her retirement in 1989. The Hogans traveled the country during their early retirement. She was also active in the community serving on the Board of Directors for Coarc and the Home for the Aging. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing bridge, crafting, watching old movies and lunches with the Red Hatters.
She is survived by: her loving husband of 67 years, James D. Hogan, Jr., of Hudson; her children, Karen (Paul) Nabozny of San Diego, CA, J. Patrick (Linda) Hogan of Ghent, Daniel Hogan of Bradenton, FL; grandchildren, Christopher Scheff of Bellmore, Cory (Darci) Hogan of Sarasota, FL, Daniel A. Hogan of Bradenton, FL; great-granddaughter, Camdynn Oliveah Hogan; extended family great-grandchildren, Nataliya Wise, Aubriana Riozzi and Jaxyn Meyre, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by: her parents, J. Lee and Evelyn (Laundrie) Akins; brothers, James Akins and Lee (Rose) Akins, and sisters, Helen (John) Paxton and Elizabeth Akins.
Funeral services in June are to be announced. Arrangements are with the Bates and Anderson Funeral Home, Hudson.
