New Lebanon’s Bruce Baldwin dies while traveling abroad

NEW LEBANON—Bruce Baldwin, a town councilman and former town supervisor, died while vacationing with his wife, Jeannine, in New Zealand and Australia, the morning of March 9.

A Democrat, Mr. Baldwin served as councilman from January 1986 through December 1987, and then served as supervisor from January 1988 through December 1995. Re-elected to the Town Board in November 2007, he been a councilman since January 2008, according to information provided by Town Clerk Colleen Teal.

Mr. Baldwin was a teacher, treasurer of the historical society and a former emergency medical technician, according to information he provided for a candidate profile in 2007.

He was born in Minnesota in 1941 and was the father of four children.

Out for respect for Mr. Baldwin and his family, the Town Board meeting scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, March 10 was cancelled.

As of March 10, Mrs. Baldwin was still out-of the country making arrangements to bring her husband’s remains home, Ms. Teal said in an email. She wrote, Mr. Baldwin “did a tremendous amount for the town/community/school.”

Funeral arrangements are not yet known.

In a posting on the town’s website, Ms. Teal said Mr. Baldwin’s many years on the Town Board “are but a few of the ways in which Bruce served our community. We will miss him greatly.”
