He was last seen Monday, August 17 at about 9 a.m., in the vicinity of the Camphill Ghent, an assisted living complex. After extensive interviews with family members, who arrived in New York State Wednesday, additional target search areas were developed.
A ground search team was deployed and found Mr. Fithian in a densely wooded, overgrown area behind the facility. Although they were unable to see Mr. Fithian at first due to the density of the vegetation, they heard him and were eventually able to find him and render first aid.
Mr. Fithian is dehydrated, bruised and did suffer from lacerations caused by the brush. He was taken to Albany Medical Center by Chatham Rescue Squad.
