VALATIE–Yesterday afternoon State Police from the Kinderhook barracks, responding to the report of an assault at the Valatie Medical Arts Building on River Street, found the body of Christina Agan, 37, of Kinderhook. The cause of death was an apparent stab wound.
Troopers arrived at the building at the intersection of state Route 9 and Main and River streets at around 2 p.m. and their investigation led to a lockdown of all schools on the nearby Ichabod Crane School District campus just before the end of the school day.
At the time, people in the neighborhood were advised to remain indoors and at least two helicopters hovered over the area near the building.
The victim, was pronounced by the Columbia County Coroner Angelo Nero.
Subsequent police investigation led to the apprehension of the victim’s estranged husband, David T. Agan Jr., age 42, of Valatie. He was located traveling on Route 4 in the Town of East Greenbush.
Ichabod Crane schools Superintendent George Zini issued a statement late Thursday afternoon, December 10, saying that the district had been contacted by the school resource officer and advised to go into lockdown “due to an incident that happened in our community.” He said that students were held in their buildings until the district was notified at approximately 3:30 p.m. that it was safe to release them.
