K'hook to commission more sheriff's patrols

VALATIE–At the regular monthly meeting on Monday, July 2, the Kinderhook Town Board approved a motion to contract with the county Sheriff’s Office for an Enhanced Enforcement Patrol. Supervisor Pat Grattan said the average hourly cost of the enhanced enforcement would be about $47.

He stressed that the town would not be paying for a deputy to cover the town 40 hours a week. He said the town is anticipating the time spent as “six hours to four hours a week.”

Mr. Grattan said the enhanced enforcement hours go above and beyond the patrols the Sheriff’s Office already provides in the town. He said earlier in the meeting that between the state troopers and the sheriff’s deputies 350 and 400 traffic tickets are given out every month on Kinderhook town roads.

One resident at the meeting pointed out that the town can send a postcard to the State Police to ask for them to do more patrols for free.

Also at the meeting, the board adopted an energy benchmarking policy to look at energy use in certain municipal buildings as part of the Clean Energy Communities “High Impact Actions.” If the town meets four of the actions they will be eligible for grant money. The board also approved putting out bids for the electric car charging station at the Martin H. Glynn Municipal Building, which is one of the actions.

Councilwoman Sally Hogan announced that state Assemblyman Jake Ashby (R-107th) will be holding a meeting with the state’s Department of Transportation (DOT) about repairs to state Route 203. Mr. Grattan said the meeting would be like the meeting board members and residents had with DOT last winter about safety issues on Route 203. This meeting would focus on the route north of the Village of Valatie. Ms. Hogan said no date is set yet for the meeting.

The next Town Board meeting will August 6 at 7 p.m.

Sarah Perry, 23, of Maplecrest, was arrested March 4 at 7:25 p.m. in Catskill and charged with two counts of criminal mischief/intent to damage property, a class A misdemeanor. Perry was released on her own recognizance.
Tiana MacDonald, 23, of Wheatley Heights, was arrested March 4 at 8:20 p.m. in Coxsackie and charged with second-degree introducing contraband into a prison, a class A misdemeanor. MacDonald was issued an appearance ticket.

Bonneau was issued an appearance ticket.
Jenna Rae Knight, 41, of Hudson, was arrested March 7 at 11:24 p.m. in Catskill and charged with driving while intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor. Knight’s arrest status was not reported.
Amanda Cabanillas, 34, of Kingston, was arrested March 8 at 10:28 p.m. in Catskill and charged with driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol content over 0.08%, both unclassified misdemeanors. Cabanillas was issued an appearance ticket.
