KINDERHOOK—the Ichabod Crane School District announced Monday afternoon, October 26 that some primary school students will attend school Tuesday, October 27, while the grades 4-12 will continue working remotely.

The decision comes after the district closed the primary school and had students in the middle and high schools work online Monday due to a student who tested positive for Covid-19.

According to an email to parents at around 3 p.m. Monday, one classroom in the primary school (which houses kindergarten through 3rd grade) “will need to quarantine for the required 14-day period, which will end on Thursday, November 5 with students and staff returning to school on Friday, November 6.” Those students who must quarantine will have a remote class with their teacher.

The rest of the school will have in-person classes on Tuesday, October 27.

“Since the primary school positive case is an isolated and contained situation, the [county Department of Health] has informed us it is safe to reopen the building,” the district said in the latest email. The district also said that all classrooms have been cleaned and disinfected at this time and that “all families with students and all staff who need to quarantine have now been contacted by the district.”

As for the middle school and high school, the district says all students and staff in those buildings will remain at home and participate in full remote learning for the next two days.

“At this time we are awaiting additional testing results from close contacts to the positive case at the middle and high school to determine if there is any other potential exposure. We expect to have those results within the next 48-72 hours” the email reads.

The school plans to have additional information to all families by the end of the day on Wednesday, October 28.

“We are remaining on full remote learning in both [middle school and high school] buildings in an abundance of caution,” the district email reads.
